Ramada Resort Accra Coco Beach
Ranked #70 of 90 Hotels in Accra
Reviewed June 2, 2012

Located in the sprawling slums that line Accra's spectacular beach, the Ramada has the distinct air o decline. Choose a room in eitth the tower or in a chalet, a group of small rooms between the beach aand the pool. The chalets are crowded, few have a direct beach view and most have view so other chalets. Mine was beach front. Ask. You may get one during the week. The hotel was empty save for some Indian businessmen. Breakfast is served in a room with ac and no view and is not available early despite promises. Nescafé and tea are served along with traditional greasy English breakfast fare. Nothing nice. The open air restaurant serves fairly good fare for dinner with some seafood. I am told that the hotel is a party place at week ends with aa active red light scene but I stayed mid week. Not a pleasant experience and staff who really did not carle. This hotel has seen better days.

Room Tip: Ask for beach front.

Accra has some very expensive prices for the quality hotel you get, main reason here was for the pricing per night, and having modern facilities, with Internet. Having the beach right on the doorstep is big plus, and you get that wind do help beat the heat. Food was american menu and average, with some local cuisine as well. Restaurant is all outdoor, no A/C or indoor area to eat, which can be annoying at night with the heavy mosquitos (time of year will vary). Service was average, and rooms were decently clean. At that time the A/C was not being turned on in the indoor room complexes. In there its hotter than outside, was an oven. Was annoying walking out of the A/C rooms, to the ridiculous temperature, and then outside. If you have to go into the city daily, then it can be a travel both ways. For the price and beachside, for me was worth it.

We chose this hotel for a one week training because it offered the best price compared to other hotels in Accra.
We were very satisfied with the rooms, the meeting room and the support from the staff. Food was ok but nothing special, this is Ghana, do not expect an Italian expresso or fresh bread. Internet connection was however unreliable and the surroundings of the hotel do not offer anything interesting except the early morning jogging (or football) on the Coco Beach. Beeing on the seaside, the resort benefit from the cool evening breeze and this is really appreciated after a hot and humid day. The distance to downtown Accra is quite long, except to pay about 20 USD for a return trip with a private taxi.

Room Tip: the chalet rooms are a bit smaller but offer more privacy

Located far from the hustle and bustle of Accra, in a sleepy, quiet area of the outskirts of the city lies this beautiful hotel. Chalets made like traditional huts close to the roaring sound of the ocean at the lovely beach. The specialty or local delicacy is Banku and tilapia, spicy, tasty and unforgettable! For those who prefer swimming in the pool to playing in the ocean, the pool is good. Rooms are small but homely, this hotel is ideal for a romantic honeymoon or the perfect getaway for the stressed couple...

My friends and i spent 5 nights in this hotel. We arrived accra late at night and met with the hotel pick up team on arrival. The rooms were tidy, hotel staff efficient and Breakfast and dinner were top class. A day to our departure, we had issues with water in our room cos we were on the second floor. The Hotel staff mad alternative arrangement for us, amd later that day, the water supply was restored to our room.
The staff were very friendly and polite, and generally made our stay enjoyable.

My family and I arrived the Ramada from Lagos at 03;00hrs ! We were dead tired after the time consuming drive ( I drove ! ) and only wanted to flop into our beds.

I've titled my review "What do you want to see " because, as with life, it all depends on your perception, outlook and experiences, If you wish to see it as a wonderful place to stay ( which we did ) then you will.......but at the same time if you wish to see it as a place with multiple flaws and nit pick every detail....then you'll see it as such too !

The reception of the hotel wasn't too inviting nor did the infrastructure look too pleasing either at that time of the morning ! The front office staff were alert and were most helpful in offloading all our luggage.....we don't travel light !....from our vehicle.

Our room was good, the air conditioning worked well and the kids were happy.

In the morning my perception of the Ramada changed for the better.....We could now see the place in daylight and it seemed far more appealing. We had a buffet breakfast, which was an event in itself, in a thatch roofed restaurant with an ocean-view. The food was good..please try the passion fruit juice, we all couldn't get enough of it !

The Ramada also served a buffet dinner, which to our delight, we found was free ! We looked forward to every visit to the restaurant.

There was a Christmas party for children with enough activities to keep our children busy and a live band on Boxing Day.....altogether, with the swimming pool, interesting things to do that kept us from going out.

The Ramada staff are a credit to their organization.....I forgot my bag at the breakfast table with our passports and cash....silly me !....and the staff kept it for me in a safe place until i came in to collect it. It could have been much worse as i've been to hotels where you would never see that bag again.

All in all we have a very pleasant stay and were kind of sad to leave. Value for money wise the Ramada is excellent.....our room, with the extra bed for the kids was $175/night.....we've stayed in $500/night hotels in Accra and the cost differential is not justifiable considering what the Ramada offers you.

Our family will surely be back.....a visit to the beautiful restaurant is enough reason.....when next we're in Ghana !

A word of note....The Ramada is far from the city center and with Accra traffic you could spent upwards of 1 hour getting to the main city. I don't believe that this is a location for a business traveler, unless, of course, your business is in this locale.

As a family destination it is an ideal place to unwind with your kids...or if you're a couple/alone, a good place to rest and relax by the ocean.

Hope this helps my fellow travelers !

Room Tip: Always take a room in the new block. We had a friend arrive before us who stayed in the chalets and...
