I stayed for two nights on a business trip from South Africa. $300 a night is a little steep compared to what you can get back home (true 5 star hotel). Checking in was a bit of a mission - mainly because a large group had arrived before me, and the reception staff (all of them) were busy with the tour operators. Not sure if this is a normal occurrence, but one would think they would arrange a separate check-in for such groups.
The staff was apologetic for the delay.
The rooms are large and comfortable although tv reception is a little dodgy. The breakfast was ok, but not fantastic - although the highlight is the French croissants that are baked in the restaurant.
Dinner was good, but not spectacular. Their food prices are pretty good for this part of the world. Excellent selection of (majority South African) wines, and the prices are very a acceptable (I go to Nairobi fairly often where you don't want to order wine!)
Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and I won't have a problem returning - just wish the room rates were a little more reasonable - but hey, you can't win them all.

This place used to be great, but they've gotten very lazy recently. The hotel is owned by the state and operated by Legacy (South Africa). The rooms themselves are very spacious and very chic -- the best part of my stay. But most of them are far from the central building and -- worst of all -- many overlook the parking lot or the busy road fronting the hotel. The staff don't try very hard, and seem put out if asked to do anything. The "lagoon" separating the beach from the pool area is truly disgusting; it's more like an open sewer. The beach isn't bad, but don't go walking too far to the left (towards the building sites) ... human feces abound. Overall, not very good value for money, even by African standards. Also a bit far from the center. I've been told that the Royal Palm (next door) is better and has a bigger pool.

I have spent 3 days in this hotel. This is hotel is worthy of 4 stars due to the attention in the design and quality of the rooms but is lacking in other things:

      - The staff are not welcoming nor engaging, we really had the feeling that they are just doing their job. Some of the staff like maid or doorman were openly rude. This is not all the staff, some were really nice, but enough to make interactions with this hotel staff average at best.
      - The food is also a mixed experience, some great dishes but also slightly off yoghurt, cold coffee or tea, salmon filet made probably out of smoked salmon…
      - If you are looking for a sea-view room, well you will be disappointed due to the architecture of the hotel. You either have the choice between garden view and parking view.
      - Rooms are billed in dollars, but everything else is billed in cedi. If you pay with your credit card, the hotel will convert to dollars using their own exchange rate, which they will pretend is the exchange rate from the bank of Ghana (that’s not true because I have checked.). This is not only practiced in this hotel, many hotels do that, but still disappointing, would have been great to have the option to pay in cedi with a credit card.

All in all, it was a mixed experience which should not be the case since its one of the most expensive hotel in Accra.

My colleagues and I travel to Accra frequently and often stay at Labadi Beach Hotel. It is like an oasis of luxury amid the many less desirable hotels that dot the city. To date is has been the hotel of choice when we travel. On our last visit a few weeks ago we did not have the same pleasant experience to which we had become accustomed. We couldn't figure it out and then we realized that our "regular" server, Morgan, was no longer working there. It turns out that he was a casual employee and not on the permanent staff. It is a shame, because he is the epitome of hospitality. We stay in hotels around the world and although Labadi Beach Hotel is an exquisite property, it is the personal service that we received from Morgan and a few others like him that made us fall in love with the property. The people that served us most recently were not very attentive or engaging and they didn't know us the way that the Morgan fellow did. I am not sure we will continue to stay here. We liked the idea of lodging at a large property, yet at the same time receiving the personalized platinum level of service that we had come to expect during our stays. There are much cheaper lodging options nearby. Unless they find some new "stars" for their service team (or bring back some of the old ones), I'll be taking my colleagues and their money someplace else.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to be your choice hotel when in Accra.

Your observations and comments have been taken seriously, and management have put in place measures to ensure excellent service. However, it is also worth noting that Morgan as mentioned is still working with Labadi Beach Hotel.

We trust that we will see you and your colleagues back to Labadi Beach Hotel in the near future.

Wow! I have been very lucky to stay in many 5 star hotels in Vegas, New York, London and Paris but this hotel is outstanding! Food is first class god the Yorkshire puddings are the best I have ever tasted, service is first class... Yes expensive but it is 5 star and I believe it is value for money... Just beautiful....
