The "grand old lady" of Accra is undergoing a renovation and the new bedrooms, restaurant and public areas look great. The pool is now open again.

The new restaurant is nice and the food is good. The pool area is lovely and a very popular after work meeting spot. The new rooms are really nice and comfortable.

But the downside generally speaking is the staff. They are at best semi-friendly and semi-helpful. The front desk staff needs to be trained in currency conversion - small bit of advice is to check the credit card slip when it is presented to you to sign - the hotel bill is in local currency but the payment is in USD - in my case the amount on the credit card slip was the local currency amount but in front of it was written USD meaning a gross overcharge. Check your restaurant and drinks bill - extras tend to slip in.

I stayed in a new room, the design and decoration is great, the room was clean, however the new carpets in the corridors were simply filthy.

To access the internet, you have to buy a voucher from the business center. The business center staff are more interested in conversation amongst themselves than they are in serving you whilst waiting at the desk.

The only time you see a manager around is when they pop outside to smoke. And I guess it tells the story - the staff know they are not being supervised and are left to their own devices.

Although the Shuttle services is free and was prompt, the Driver expected to be tipped, which l thought was inappropriate given that this hotel is very expensive. Some staff at this hotel were very rude, unhelpful and had no idea in terms of custometr services. Whilst the rooms appeared clean, the house keeper do not clean the rooms properly, for example l had to leave a note before my bedlinen was changed and it was very clear that they were not hoovering the room daily as they should because l could see lots of hair strans on the bathroom, The hotel is very stingy interms of tioleteries etc. Moreover the shower in my room was leaking and when l reported this to staff, l was told an enginner will have a look but this never happened. They do not have variety interms of the breakfast. The entrance of the hotel is very unwelcoming and there are no seats for guest unless you sit at the bar where you are actually persistently told by the hotel staff that you have to buy a drink before you can seat at the bar. The hotel is also being renovated, hence the pool is closed, although they offered this services at another hotel via twice per day shuttle bus to and from this venue, but lt was very inconveniencing. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as this hotel dores not offer value for money and the customer services was varied significantly. There was even no news paper at the buffet breakfast area which is pathetic as news papers are not that expensive.

The positives: The driver met me at the airport as arranged. It's a very short ride from the airport to the hotel. The renovated bedrooms are nice, with clean lines and decent facilities.
The negatives: The public spaces are in disarray, unwelcoming, with little to no air conditioning, and very humid. The pool is closed for renovations, so there's no place to relax comfortably outside your room. (In fairness, the hotel offers a shuttle to another hotel twice a day to use their pool, but then you're stuck for at least two hours between buses without access to your room.) The internet connection is expensive and slow. Yes, hotels of this kind are expensive in Africa, but you're not getting much value for money here. I'm looking to move.

Sadly for a city with deeply friendly and helpful people - this hotel bucks the trend. It did not start well when I discovered that my room which begins with a "3" is actually on the second floor - that must be a first in the hotel trade. My room smells smokey and the decor is deeply tired (yes I am here as i write), the food in the restaurant was sub-standard - pizza like cardboard, the wifi has just started working after nearly an hour of trying and a few calls to the business centre. That said it is close to the airport which makes that get away just a little bit quicker. Presently the pool is out of action and much of the public areas are being renovated. A disappointing experience all round. Try the Labadi Beach Hotel for something a little more authentic.

I spent 4 nights in one of the newly renovated rooms and I was very impressed (room 263 btw) and it has to be better than any hotel around. The food was good and the sports facilities were good (extra bonus if you are tennis player because they have some good courts) and I was very pleased that the gym equipment were modern. Only drawback is the internet access was expensive, you're better off buying one of the internet dongles if you are staying for a week at the Tulip

They renovation is almost done! A new, snazzy and improved Tulip while maintaining its old strengths of a perfect location and large grounds. Heart beat of Accra has migrated to Airport Residential, and Tulip is the only hotel that is centrally and spacioulsy located. Food has more appeal, and services is sharper. Cafe in entry way is convenient and tasty and also good for take-away sandwiches. Rooms have regained a well-needed sparkle. Pool, to be renovated, has a spread out area, great to relax on the weekend. A real find is the tucked away sports area which have the two best tennis courts in Accra, coaches looking for a match, and a small gym which makes up for tried and true equipmment with the best and kindest trainers in town. Business center, which was always good, has taken a turn for the better. Great now. Once the renovation is completed, this will be the only place in Accra to work and relax.

The hotel was undergoing a renovation the last time I stayed. Well, one of the wings is done and I must say the rooms are very nice. Clean euro-style decoration with flat screen TV, glass wall shower, comfortable bed. The in-room wi-fi connection is very fast and reliable. My room was a bit warm, but the AC is controlled centrally so you can't really change that. It got better during my stay.

The restaurant has been renovated as well, but the food is only so-so and expensive. There is a daily buffet dinner, but at 40+ cedis, too expensive (exchange rate was $1 = 1.4 cedis).

I would definitely stay here again in the future. Much improved from my previous stay.
