Best Western Premier Accra Airport Hotel
Ranked #21 of 91 Hotels in Accra
Reviewed July 15, 2013

The Best Western in Accra was a clean hotel with spacious rooms and kind, helpful staff. I was happy with the service I received. In particular, a colleague of mine was injured in a fall, and the staff was more than accommodating in ensuring he was not badly hurt and that he received all the assistance he needed.

The hand shower was somewhat inconvenient, but not that big of an issue for me. The wireless internet had a code that had to be re-entered on each log-in, which was inconvenient, and the wireless internet was rather slow. However, it was adequate for most of my needs, and when I needed to skype or do other high-demand projects, the ethernet hookup in the room provided the necessary connection speed.

The fitness center was small (2 treadmills, 2 bikes, one elliptical, some basic weights), but somebody motivated enough could make do while on vacation or a business trip. I used it every day, sometimes twice a day, and while it was somewhat disappointing to someone accustomed to modern, well-stocked fitness centers, it was adequate to maintain basic conditioning.

Overall, I would stay here again.

I stayed for 5 nights in May 2013. BW Accra is typical of what you would expect from a 4* hotel anywhere in the world. I had a standard room for $250. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also pretty good, but it did have a small bath with hand shower - no shower curtain, so a proper stand up shower was not an easy option. Water pressure and temperature varied a bit too. Most things worked apart from the phone which could not call anywhere. There were one or two broken switches for lights, which should not be the case in a hotel in this price range. Really, everything should be 100%.

Internet is available in the room with a wired connection, which bypasses the voucher system on the wifi. Speed was good enough on both systems. The wifi does use the voucher system, which are available from reception. They can give vouchers valid for 10 hours out of 48 hours - ideal for a smart-phone.

Food was just OK, not outstanding. Breakfast was a simple buffet and they would cook omelettes/pancakes if wanted. A larger variety of fruit would have been nice. For lunch/dinner there is a menu which gets a bit repetitive after a few days.

I used the pool once, which was OK. Nice to sit with a beer after a long day. I also used the shuttle bus to the airport which worked well.

Overall, this was a good hotel experience for me, the only complaint being that it is too expensive. But that is the same for many hotels in Accra.

I stayed here on 9th April but because of the trip advisor 3 month rule I had to wait to submit this review .
I had just worked 5 weeks of night shift offshore in Takoradi so I was looking forward to a shower and a comfy bed to relax in before travelling home and maybe a ice cold beer or 2 .
I only had a short stay in the hotel a short stop gap before going to the airport and flying back to Europe .
The hotel standards were the same as the last time I here at the beginning of February the check in was easy and my room was perfect for my short stay and a great place to relax & chill out .

I first stayed here in February 2013. The experience was horrendous. On departure next morning left a complaint. Ten day's later received a apology reply from M D saying this was unusual and invited me yo please stay again promising me a good experience and a complimentary bottle of wine. Arrived 16th May to give 2nd chance. On arrival i reminded the reception. Guess what no one new anything about this offer despite being on an official hotel form. Then got to room toilet seat was on floor. Telephone didn't work. When I plugged my laptop chord into socket the whole plug socket frame fell out of the wall. Room was full of mosquitos. I reported all this to reception. Left hotel at 8am next morning reminding reception about the problems. On arrival at 7pm that night. Nothing in my room had been repaired. Well I won't be staying here ever again

Dear Brian,

We thank you for your feedback and wish to render our unqualified apologies to you for any inconvenience caused by us. We also wish to thank you for the two written notes you hand-delivered to our guest relations which coincidentally contained the same information posted on here.

The contents of these notes, according to the Guest Relations Supervisor on duty, were discussed with you and various actions proposed to address all your concerns, including a suggestion to immediately change your room whilst the maintenance team deal with the defects, but this suggestion was turned down.

In the written notes, you clearly identified yourself as the General Manager of Stellar Lodge in Takoradi, Ghana - a direct competitor - and an ex Best Western General Manager. We wish, however, to assure you that all the issues you complained about were investigated and dealt with, albeit the room toilet seat was not on the floor and the plug socket was still intact when our maintenance team inspected the room. The wine and two glasses for you and your fiancee were also delivered to your room with the hotel's compliments.

As a member of the Best Western brand, our hotel is subjected to periodic Quality Assurance Assessments (QAA) against very high quality standards comparable to the highest quality standards in the hotel industry, and one such assessment took place on 30th April 2013. This notwithstanding, we acknowledge that service glitches do occur from time to time in hotel operations, but when our attention is drawn to any such failures, we immediately take the appropriate action to address them. As a hotel, we strongly believe that constructive guest comments can only help us enhance our products and services to meet the changing expectations of our valued guests.

Tripadvisor is a global feedback vehicle that enables our esteemed guests' to inter alia, post constructive reviews and opinions of travel-related content to help hotels enhance their products and services and we hope this objective will not be lost in some hotel manager's attempt to use this excellent mechanism to undermine their competitors.

Once again, we thank you for the feedback and look forward to welcoming you to the premier life on your next visit to Accra.

This is a hotel with around 100 bedrooms, one restaurant, one small bar and fairly small public lobby area. There's a very small gym and a fairly OK pool. They say there's a pool bar but I never saw it open.

The positives are the friendly and helpful front-of-house and restaurant staff, the food (really nice mix of local and international, well-cooked and well-presented), and the comfort of the bed.

However it's letting itself down by some small details that make a big difference if you're on a business trip:
- the WiFi (provided by Vodafone) is very erratic and as mentioned by another reviewer you get a voucher that can be activated within 24 hours of receipt that has 5 hours of online time - to extend you have to get another voucher, which is a pain.
- the rooms - I was in a 'superior' - are OK - the bed was comfy and the a/c worked properly so didn't keep you awake. However: wardrobes too short so you can't hang anything longer than a short skirt, no hooks in the bathroom so nowhere to hang towels, limited CaTV choice, no channel guide, and poor sound-proofing vs other rooms and corridor noise. Safe doesn't work unless you get someone in to set it up.
- room service is OK but takes hours. Remember to order everything you could possibly need first time around.
- the conference rooms are OK even though ours was very dark (they use energy-saving bulbs) but the WiFi (free for conference delegates) is extremely erratic, the a/c goes on and off when it feels like it, we got through three UPSs before we found one that worked, you have to ask for water if you are a presenter, in fact you have to ask for everything that's considered 'normal' at an international conference and they aren't slow to let you know how much it costs and not particularly helpful or friendly - a big difference with the front of house people. There are only 2 washrooms per gender for conference delegates - so when there are >100 people this means queues, plus they are very, very poorly-maintained. Tea/coffee breaks are limited and not particularly exciting.

Bottom line: it's probably OK if you're just sleeping here for a couple of nights but it does get very limited and tedious after that. There are better places in Accra to run a conference - they need to up their game here if they want to continue to compete, particularly in the areas of staff attitude and functionality of a/v and communications equipment.

Room Tip: Keep away from the lifts.

The hotel has a good location near the airport. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Good internet connection but unfortunately a difficult procedure with long access codes that last for 4 hours only. If you stay a long time this is not ideal.

It was my first experience in Best Western ever.
The hotel is Good, well located, and Clean.
As soon as you come in the Loby is fair and the staff are OK.
when i arrived, i had my booking confirmed, but the receptionist had to let me wait for 2 hours until they get payment confirmation from their agent, something that I understand but did not like.
The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable, air conditioning was not working all the time, at times it is good other times it was just air ventilation.
Thr fridge was not working, internet was fast but the fact that every four hours you have to renew your code is very annoying.
House keeping was not apreciated, one day i had no towels, another day i had no shampoo, third day i had no floor towel, so this was a little frustrating.
Breakfast varity was too limited.
Bartender at the bar in the Lobby area has no clue what being a bar man is!! the least is to smile, unlike the other team from Zara restaurent in the Hotel.
Airport shuttle was accurate and professional.
In Genral the stay was fair, though i will not go there another time for the time being.
