Stayed twice, once in a suite and second time in a room.
Bad points: No pool. But there is another hotel nearby with a pool you can use. Air con was a bit feeble in some rooms.
Good points: Staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. Very comfortable louge/dining room/bar area with large flat screen TV. Reliable Internet point in every room which was free access. Bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in (including the Westins!). Bathroom and the room were clean and modern, High water pressure giving plenty of hot/cold water. Close to the airport.

Before and after a fascinating but tiring trip north, the Highgate was just what we needed - welcoming, quiet and comfortable. The staff are all delightful, as one would expect in this most welcoming country, but I must give a special mention to Wendy and her team at the reception desk; nothing was too much trouble and they not only met every request with smiling effeciency, they even changed the SIM cards in our mobile phones for us, so we could phone home at the amazingly cheap Ghanaian rate!
Food can be a problem for conservative Europeans in Ghana but the Highgate had a good range from tasty local to trusty and delicious pizzas. Rooms are very well-equipped with good beds, plenty of space and efficient air-conditioning (a must!). If you can run to a suite you can have a fabulous view of Accra from your balcony. Even the infamous Ghanaian plumbing seems to work here! The Highgate is the perfect haven from the wonderful melee of downtown Accra and I hope to be back there in November.

We loved our stay, clean room, efficient staff. Breakfast was wonderful . . . we highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting comfort, friendly staff, great food and exceptional service from the room to the staff, and all the way around. It is a 10 star as far as we are concerned.

I have stayed here twice, the first time in a standard room, the second in a suite. On both occasions the service and standard of accommodation has been excellent, the suite is better of course.

The suites are on the top floor (no elevator) and the water pressure is very low so be prepared to wait for a bath to fill.

Very clean and friendly, the staff are always on hand to help you and to my surprise remembered me on my second visit, this always adds to the experience and makes you feel like a valued customer.

I highly recommend it.

If you ask your local customer for a recommendation, they're going to suggest the Golden Tulip or the Holiday Inn, both of which are near the airport and both of which charge too much for what they are. They suggest those because that's what they know. When you say you're staying at the Highgate, they'll ask how to get there. But the Highgate is the place for a business stay. There's no pool, no gym and no beach, so it might not be so good if you're looking for a resort, but for business it's tops.

The rates are reasonable. The food is good (don't leave without eating the grouper cassserole). The rooms are spacious and clean. There's lashings of hot water (as long as you remember to press the Water Heater switch). Broadband is free, and always on. When there's a power cut, the generator kicks in almost instantaneously.

But the real high point is the staff. Any hotel can have willing staff. What the Highgate has is well trained, willing staff. And, when you have a problem (as I did -- this is West Africa, remember), they go the extra mile to solve it for you.

I've already booked my return stay in August. I travel alone, I travel on business and I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

The HIghgate was great to stay in when I went to Accra for a conference last week.

Pros:The staff were very friendly and the place was clean and well looked after. The food at breakfast was limited but still varied and their is something for everyone. Access to internet etc very easy and free. Shuttle bus and drivers were excellent. A/C fantastic!

Cons: The hotel is on a very busy junction and the noise from the traffic was a definite disturbance and even earplugs did not always drown it out. There is no garden area or anywhere to relax, no lift and there are 3 floors to the hotel.

My stay was good.

A small "boutique" hotel - very well situated in Asylum Down. You feel part of the city, with easy access to small shops and street vendors. Friendly and professional staff, large comfortable rooms, good hi-speed internet (wifi and cable), nice restaurant and bar. No pool and fitness centre at present - but plans are in the works, I think. I highly recommend this for visitors who want to experience Accra in a more direct way.

The business centre is full service, with capable staff who provide assistance and help to navigate some of the challenges that international travelers experience.

I am already looking forward to my next opportunity to travel to Accra so that I can book into the Highgate and work from my home away from home.
