“Ride on!!!!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Haven't you tried this before? you have missed something worth to try. This is not a cowboy film but real cowboy on your own in Entoto jungle. If you lucky you might see wild animals. I have seen them on two occations. Being in the compound by itself is very relaxing. I love this place.

“Sunday Picnic”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

A nice place to bring your kids or friends. They do not serve food, but they allow picnic, and even have a couple of tables and chairs. The stables are located in a big nice compound. So for those not into horse riding - it is nice to take a walk just in their compound. You can choose all kinds of trips for riding, from 15 minutes to a week. A nice start is to take the 2 hours trip to Entoto. They have helmets, and are good explaining for beginners, so you should feel safe also bringing your kids along. Bring good clothing, as it can be chilly.
Good signing, you turn to the right just when you enters Sululta, then there is a few kilometers by gravel road. It is also possible to drive all the way up to Entoto hill, bu we never tried this option.

“A good fast gallop across the plains..”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

The road up to Equus is pretty bumpy - you'll get the full African massage for the last few kms. I went for a 2 hour ride out - super little horse - small but very fast. I was on my own, so we just went riding across the plains for a few hours. If you only want to trot or walk, they'll accommodate you, but I was happy with a mixture and had a good few fast gallops and thoroughly enjoyed it. The stables are lovely and the horses well looked after. A nice way to spend an afternoon just outside Addis,.

“Definetly should try!!!!”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

You really should try this one. A great ride in the hills of Ethiopia. You might have a chance to see some of the wild life (animals such as: deers, gazels, rabbits, etc) when riding the horses. The view is spectacular and worth the ride. 2 hours of riding the horses should be plenty and enough if you are not a camping fan. Dubalu (the guide) is a gentleman and a fun guy to go on the trip with. He is a nice guy and willing to take pictures for you at any time.

Advices:
- BRING YOUR FOOD WITH YOU if you are going for half a day.
- Make sure you have a good camera otherwise you will miss on great views and shot of the trip
- You should ask them to provide the transportation (around 700 birr round way) if you don't have your own way of transportation.
- When you choose your horse, make sure you don't take the fastest one there (forgot his name) because they looooove to run :)
- Just a little caution!!!!!: you will get a bit sore the next day :p

“Very very highly recommended!!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Imagine yourself galloping a beautiful horse across the Ethiopian plains and by the barley fields, or taking things slower through a stunning pine forest, up a small mountain to view a hyenas den from the cliffs above. We (myself, husband and friend) spent 2 and a half days with the Equus family and it was a real highlight of our entire trip (and would it be cheesy to say a real highlight of our lives?!).

Meheret, the manager, was so helpful, flexible, well organised and welcoming. Our guide Dida was very friendly, professional, spoke good English and taught us a lot about the area and the horses. The horses were very well looked after and very gentle with the beginners amongst us - they cater well to beginners through to experienced riders.

We opted for 2 full days of riding, and the guys did a 2 hour ride on the last morning, but the team will cater to what you want - whether a half day, full day or a longer trek. Be sure to call ahead though, the weekends are particularly busy.

We camped by the stables, and were provided tents, mattresses, pillows and extra blankets. Our picnic lunch consisted of cheese sandwiches, chips, fruit and water - yummy and hearty and always in an amazing setting. Dinner by the campfire included hot soup, pasta or rice, and fruit, and catered well for our vegetarian friend. There is a clean squat toilet on site and hot water can be provided to wash your face etc.

We thought the cost to be great value, especially given the high quality of the food, stables, guides etc. Meheret also organised transport from Addis (about 30-45 mins away) for us for a fair price.

And the scenery - oh my! This part of Ethiopia is stunning and you get to see so much while travelling on horse back. We got a great variety across our two and a half days.

Take comfortable clothing and good shoes, and a warm jacket for the cold nights. And your camera is a must - they can store it in a saddle bag on the horse and you will want to keep stopping to take photos of the views!

You may be sore, especially if you're not a regular horse rider, but any aches and pains are FAR outweighed by the rest of the experience :)
