Nestled near the back of the University of Addis Ababa campus, this museum provides a great deal of information about the many cultures of Ethiopia. Be prepared for lots of reading and some oddly lit rooms. Still great to walk around and stick around the campus as a nice green area of Addis.

very interesting to learn all about the tribal groups thousands of years ago. It really helped to have our guide Melkomu from Dinknesh Tours , so knowledgable and easy to understand, he made our stay the best!!!

While the exhibit is interesting enough, and gives a fairly pedagogical introduction to various aspect of Ethiopian anthropology - personally, I came mainly for emotional reasons, having long wished to see RasTafari's Coronation Palace. I'd say, both the historical and ethnographic aspects of the place is well worth a visit, to spend an afternoon hour or so walking through.
Myself, I had the added pleasure of greeting the esteemed gentleman whose privilege and duty it had been to assist HIM's person in some capacity. I felt the breeze of history; awe and trembling. However, I also, think it worthwhile to mention here the young friend who accompanied me from the National museum to the Ethnological (where he insisted on paying his own admittance). The federal police guarding the entrance to the former place spoke very highly of the lad. (I say this, that others may inquire to obtain an excellent guide! Ask for him-who-detains-pickpockets). I wish to extend my appreciation, in fact congratulate my young friend for his astute presence of being and a strength of character absent in most! Kid-o, you do your country proud!

The ethnological museum is worth a short stop. If you have a chance, arrange for a guide to walk you through the museum as it will enhance your understanding of the different cultures. The museum shop, while small, offers excellent choices and prices.
