We stayed here on the first two days of our tour through Northern Ethiopia. The room I got was big and I could have entertained many a night with friends. The disadvantage however was that we stayed here during the weekend and the night life of the capital came through loud and clear until 3 or 4 a.m. in the morning, so bring ear plugs. The beds were a little too hard for my own taste but otherwise fine. The breakfast was ok and the staff helpful.

Room tip: A room on a higher floor is better to block the noise from the bars nearby

I spent the last couple of nights of a two week trip to Ethiopia at Sabon Hotel and really want to recommend it. My trip to Ethiopia had consisted mainly of camping and trekking, so I really wanted some comfort at the end of my stay. Sabon Hotel provided that comfort. It has many selling points, such as location (In Bole, a trendy district of Addis Ababa and a 15 min drive to Addis Ababa Airport), modern, clean with spacious rooms, great service and wifi (the best wifi I found in Addis which really is saying something). A twin room is about 40 pounds a night but of course will vary depending on the time of year.

I would agree with the other reviews in that the breakfast wasn't great, but a wide selection of cafes and restaurants are on your doorstep so you have options.

Location: close to many restaurants and shops in Bole. Get a room in the higher floors as the night life in Addis is noisy.
Rooms: spacious and clean.
But what distinguishes this hotel from others is definitely the management and the front desk staff. The manager is very helpful - VERY.
The front desk staff need particular mention: Elsa (the supervisor), Hermela, Mekdes and last but not least Hiwot: they can make your stay enjoyable and they attend to every issues you might have. They are great - Sabon Hotel management if you're reading this the four ladies deserve a raise!!!

[The food at restaurant needs some work though]

Room tip: Rooms in high floors better as Addis is noisy

Small hotel with friendly and attentive staff, functioning airport pickup (something the bigger hotels often don't manage well) and very spacious rooms. Be aware there is no AC, but most of the year you wouldn't need one in Addis. Good WiFi

Room tip: Off the main road it should be less busy/noisy

Its clean, breakfast is poor but staff are nice. A horrible stench from the bathrooms is not very nice. Staff are very nice and helpful, i checked into my room, broken TV and not very clean so they changed me to another room below, went to take a shower and the the shower head broke off but other than that its what you pay for. The finishing in the bathrooms are very poor this is one major setback.

Room tip: Ask for an upgrade
