There's really nothing there except the statue...we drove by it :O
I didn't get close to it; its in a very busy part of town, watch your pockets.

This place has been taken over by vagrants, but they leave you alone. The guard needed some enticement to let me snap a photo, he just seemed nervous about pictures. It was worth 5 good minutes but you could get just as much by just stopping and taking a photo from your car. The place smells a bit like an open air toilet. I didn't need a guide but had decided prior this was going to be a quick stop.

Cool Soviet-style communist monument. Watch out for the hordes of kids hanging around the area that might try to pickpocket you.

This monument is open to the public but when you walk on the grounds you may be approached by young punks who insist you need a "ticket" for 32 birr (about $2). Of course no ticket is required. Best just to view the monument from the street (Churchill street) unless you can find a police officer to accompany you...

This place doesn't look controlled by any officiall authority but the surrounding gangsters. They will charge you 30 birr for photo camera and 150 birr for video. Reduce your load before you enter the area.
This is the best place to see ethiopia's past communism era. Upon entering the area you will immediately feel the presence of communism with it's famous slogans- land to the tillers, down with imperialism and let those who doesn't work not to eat etc. The place desserve preserved for countries past history. During Derg era, with no surprise, this was the most beautiful place in town, with man made fountains pour from the stairs in different colors and the red star glow bright in the dark and could be seen afar off. This is also one of the few places where you can publicly see Mengistu Hailmariams figure. Highly historic place but first you must endure the urine odor prior entering the area. Highly recommended.
