I stayed here for several nights when my family came to visit me in Cameroon, and we were quite happy with our experience. The rooms are very nice and clean, the beds are comfortable, and we appreciated the fact that hot water and mosquito nets were provided. The hotel is on a quiet side street, and security is excellent. Yes, you have to leave your key with the receptionist when you go out, but that's fairly common in Cameroon, and trust me, your key is far safer at the front desk than it is with you out in Yaounde (though I should note that Bastos, the neighborhood where Hotel Laginaque is located, is a very posh, expat-y, diplomatic neighborhood, and is generally quite safe anytime before 10-10:30 pm or so [and even then it's not dangerous as long as you exercise a little more caution and don't go out alone]). And yes, there isn't a generator, but that keeps the room prices reasonable, and because it's Bastos, the power is never out for long (and it never went out when we were there, though admittedly that's a rarity for Cameroon [but it's part of the experience!]). The hotel is literally a 2-3 minute walk from some of the best restaurants in Yaounde -- Italian, Turkish, Chinese, pizza, burgers, and, of course, that excellent Cameroonian roasted chicken, fish, and plantains! And on a final note, the hotel's owner, Joseph Mangwa, is truly lovely -- warm, welcoming, helpful, and kind. You won't get a better experience or better value anywhere else in Yaounde.

What a bad experience.... I spent 4 days in this hotel just because due to a convention all the others were full. Once at the desk the authoritarian owner addressed himself to me by saying this is the best hotel.... I asked to see a room and he said it was not possible but as the announce at the reception says you can see the room on the website. Well noting on the site of the hotel correspond to the reality from the room pictures to the services offered! No restaurant service at Laginaque and if you order for a delivery the price will be a good souvenir for you ( I paid at least double of the price for a good meal at the "La Salsa" restaurant)
The last night at the Laginaque was a nightmare no electricity and the Mosquitos eat me completely...... Yes correct no generator at the Laginaque.
Further and last detail left me open mouth after having had to pay in advance and completely my 4 days stay there as soon as I got in the room, was that every time if left the hotel to go to have a meal I had to leave the keys at the reception with the owner which accessed to my room several time during my absence..... Just crazy.....
The night I spent without no electricity he gave me a torch I left in the room to go out for dinner at my return at the entrance he have me another torch. I thought to be the second one just to realize that during my dinner out he got in the room to take it and use it for other unlucky guests.....

Good morning Sir,
Above all , we thank you for agreeing to take a little of your time to post your review sincere and frank about our hotel. However , we regret that you have not taken the time to provide us with all your complaints before your departure, so that we can provide you with verbal response .
So to answer your various comments :
- As you well you write : "No restaurant service at Laginaque " because there are dozens of us, just near to the hotel (50~100m) ; so the meal we gave you does not come from us, we just bought different things to gave you a meal as hugest as possible (chicken, fries, juice, fruit , yogurt, etc. ) . So apologies if the price of everything we bought for you exceeded your budget
- Indeed, we do not have a generator in our hotel because its noise prevented guests who were near to where we installed it : upon request, we were forced to remove it , and move to a system of lamps. Again, our apologies if presented any discomfort to you
- Knowing that we are in a tropical country , all our rooms are equipped with mosquito nets , so that our customers have no problem with mosquitoes , so we hope that you thought to drop one that was above your bed! In addition, you could introduce yourself to the reception of the hotel to discuss the problem of mosquitoes,we would also have provided an insecticide !
- For stays exceeding three days , we ask indeed our customers to pay a deposit of at least 3 days. That is why your stay beyond one day our limit (ie 4 days), we asked you to pay your entire stay. If you experience any problems with this, we would have been delighted to find a consensus with you: we are here primarily to serve you !
- We ask our customers to leave their keys at the reception because we've had tremendous problems when we let them away : they often lost it, or other people stole their keys and come to the reception as the actual customers (and therefore flew all in the rooms), etc. ... Again : if you had any problem with it, we would have no problem making an exception for you if you wante it !
- As you write, in your absence , we have access to your room several times to clean mainly ! The second reason we have access to the rooms of our customers is to ensure they have left no device on. For a few weeks before your arrival , we had a huge problem because of the company that provides us with electricity : they cut us light and then returned, but with a much too high intensity! We had for millions of CFA Franc - XAF damage , the hotel even almost burn ! Thus, to avoid this happening again, so to keep the different devices of our customers safe and their room too, we used to make sure to check each time you leave that every devices in your room are turned off and unplugged . As we said, we are here primarily to serve you !
- Finally, as regards the lamp we took in the room, this is simply because in your absence, the light came back , so we have simply recovered the lamp, beacuse it would no longer serve you ! Unfortunately , shortly before you return , we had another break power : that is why we gave you another lamp . Thus, we didn't have to give your lamp to another "unlucky guests ", do not worry : we have enough for all our customers.

We hope to have answered correctly to your various comments , but we really regret that you didn't give us all these remarks during your stay with us (so that we can respond and improve the quality of our service through your feedback ) . However, we thank you once again for your candor , for the time you took to post this review .

Hoping that our hotel didn't gave you a too bad impression of our beautiful city, we hope that you will soon return to Yaounde , CMR !

Hotel Laginque is in Bastos, one of Yaounde's fancier neighborhoods. This small hotel is located on a quiet side street, and offers everything most Western travelers would consider necessary: Hot water, air conditioning, mosquito nets, comfortable beds. The location is within easy walking distance of several good places to eat.

The hotel itself has very good security, and -- in a city that's always abuzz with noise -- we slept soundly and enjoyed the very quiet surroundings. Rooms in this hotel are very clean, and the hotel is well-kept.

But more than all that is the owner, Mr. Joseph Mangwa. If you want impersonal attention, then yes, go pay the highly inflated prices at The Hilton. If you want to experience legendary Cameroonian hospitality, then stay at Mr. Mangwa's hotel. He was so very kind to our family, and really extended himself. There was nothing we asked of him that was too much trouble. Always friendly, always welcoming -- we recommend this hotel whole-heartedly.
