This was the perfect hotel for me. I looked into staying at one of the big beach hotels but they were really expensive. Botanika is downtown in Burundi on the main street with alot of the fun bars. If you are in Burundi to have fun it is the perfect location. The rooms were decent sized and clean and the service was great. The shower was strong. And the wi-fi was good. Really that is all I need in a hotel.

Also the restaurant is excellent - really good food - the best we had during our stay. Even if you don't choose this hotel you should come for the food.

Room Tip: One warning - and it isn't the hotel really it is the location. The street gets crazy on the wee...

Very nice guest house hotel in Bujumbura.
A small facility with 7 rooms but really worthy.
Service is impeccable!! The owners are very friendly and helpful
Comfort and security.
Food cooked is very tasty, nicely and fresh.

Stayed for two nights over the weekend in Hotel Botanika. Very nice hotel. And very good location for someone who enjoys partying when on a weekend get away. Hotel has got a club on either side and one at the front. Plus many other clubs within walking distance. ..... The restaurant of the hotel is one of the best in town ...... So for me a lover of good food and great parties .... This was the place to stay in Bujumbura ..... Two bad points though .....(one) the hotel can hear the thug thug of the clubs on either side so if you prepare to sleep early and if you are not a sound sleeper, this hotel will give you a hard time ...(two) for some reason at breakfast the staff served everyone else better than me ..... :-(

A nice little hotel with restaurant in the center of Bujumbura - takes probably about 30 minutes to reach from the airport. The rooms are all very nice (stayed in 3 and 6 so far), with the rooms lining the courtyard being the more quiter choice. (The Botanika is opposite a bar (Havanna, I believe), and I suspect that it can get noisy during a weekend.) I think they were more recently refurbished than rooms 1 - 3 as well. Nevertheless, my rooms were very clean and nice, with free internet access, AC and cable TV.

The staff is very nice and most of them speak English as well. The food in the restaurant is very nice (I can especially recommend the fish in coconut sauce with veggies) and it can be a crowded place in the evenings. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, but can definitely compete what is served elsewhere in Buja hotels. But not being a breakfast person anyway (the coffee is good!), I wouldn't deduct anything from the excellent rating. Definitely one of the best choices in Burundi!

You should make a reservation as soon as your travel dates stand, chances are that they are fully booked.

After reading reviews on here I booked myself in for 2 nights. Unfortunately on the first night they were fully booked so I had to stay elsewhere, the other hotel was horrendous and I had to keep my shoes on in my room.
Hotel Botanika was wonderful with fantastic food, belgian beer, hot water and A/C. The staff were very helpful and always willing to help. I stayed in room 1 and I didn't have any problems with noise. I will definitely stay again on my next visit.

Room Tip: I only stayed in room 1 but it was nice and big.

Simple, attractive and well-run hotel right in the center of town, across from the Havana Club which can be very noisy. Rooms are simple and spartan but as clean as the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika. Helpful desk staff, will work with you for airport arrivals and departures which are often at crazy times in Buj.

The restaurant is a real draw: good, interesting and tasty cuisine with reasonable prices. Lot's of resident expats come to eat here: usually a good sign.

Room Tip: Room 1,2 and 3 are at the front, overlooking the street, and not well insulated against noise. Aside...

Hi,

I have stayed at Botanika for about a month and I totally recommend this place. The only bad things I have to say are not under their control.

also, I would like to mention that they were flexible about the payment, which is always appreciated in a country where the banking system is not really efficient.

Overall, I would have given it 5 stars, but because of the noise issue I have to give 4 stars. The rooms may be better in some other places, but overall for me it is the best choice and you could not go wrong with Botanika (at least on weekdays).

Pros :

- Centrally located in Downtown Bujumbura. For me it is a benefit.

- Clean, confortable rooms.

- Great restaurant, extensive menu.

- Superior breakfast compared to competitors that often offer basic breakfast (croissants, coffee, fruits). Botanika offers eggs, omelettes, pankakes, unlimited fruits and croissants and a weekend brunch.

- Good Internet connection. One of the best in town. Reliable with acceptable speed.

- Extensive cable package. There is a lot of SKY sports channels, BBC, french TV channels, some movie channels and the usual international news channels. Even if I do not watch a lot of TV, it is always nice to have when you have a couple of hours to waste.

- located near a taxi stand and one of the few banks with an international ATM.

Cons:

- Hard to avoid the noise on the weekends. Friday and Saturday are REALLY loud and it is hard to sleep cause there are 2 clubs accross the street and under the first floor.

- The rooms could be bigger, and better lighted. I have seen much bigger room elsewhere for the same price, but these hotels where not as conveniently located.

- The beds are very firm. Those who like soft beds may find these very hard.

- It takes time to get hot water for the shower.
