“An oasis of calm”
Reviewed February 21, 2010

With clean rooms, an OK kitchen and very very pleasant pool & gardens Hotel les Palmiers is a great place to relax and unwind, especially if you've had a few days of hard travel beforehand.

It is very close to the centre of town, which is great for the limited site seeing opportunities there are available in Ouga, and the only critcism I would have of the place is that it lacks a little atmosphere.

The design is refreshingly pleasant. The staff is young and energetic. The owner is hands-on and knows what's what. It struck me as a contented family of employees in a charming setting. The restaurant serves the best food I found in Ouagadougou. It is the best choice overall.

After staying at the Laico on my previous trip to Ouaga, I would rather recommend this hotel. The Laico is completely disconnected from Africa, whereas les Palmiers is much more relevant to the local situation.
The hotel is no frills, but the basics are great. Nice ambience in the garden. The 2 rooms I stayed in (I had to change rooms halfway) were clean, the showers had good water pressure and the water was warm. The windows can be kept open if you want to, since there are screens. If there is no mosquito net in your room you can ask for one (or use the insect spray which they leave in the rooms).
Free and pretty good wifi was available in the restaurant - I could connect from my room as well, but the connection was weaker and less reliable there.
Only inconvenient if you are paranoid about mosquitoes is that the restaurant is out in the open, so bring along some deet.
The staff were friendly and the breakfast OK, with some fresh fruit.
Overall a very pleasant place.

Here you pay for everything. Laundry service is an extorsion, menus are very pricey and some rooms are not so good. It is a pleasant place in a quiet street of Ouaga, but I found it very expensive and you can get more for your money in other places. Nice pool and nice staff (some of them can speak English) though.

I have stayed at Les Palmiers for 5 stays now on 2 different trips. I would never stay anywhere else in Ouagadougou.

The most notable thing about the hotel is it's lovely ambience. The location is central right in the centre of downtown, and yet it is always quiet and peaceful inside the walls of Les Palmiers. The courtyard is full of blooming flower bushes including plumeria.

There is a very nice restaurant on the premises if you are the type who enjoys just getting to relax after a day of touring or work - no need to go out for a delicious meal. Also of course there is the bar so you can get cold drinks at any time. The restaurant/bar area is outside under a nice covered area with fans whirring away so it is cool and calming.

There is a very small but nice pool within the courtyard which will cool you down after the day or is good for just lounging beside.

Wireless internet is now available and conveniently it it set-up as an "account" system so you can buy a bunch and then just use five minutes at a time or whatever. Wireless internet was new between my first stay in 2007 and my second in 2008.

The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and well equipped. When you book you request what type of room you want ranging from large ones with tv and air conditioning to smaller ones without these amenities. All rooms (as far as I am aware) have their own bathrooms with western toilets and nice showers. The whole feel in the rooms is just calming. The rooms are decorated in a style that is consistent with Burkina Faso culture - the bedspreads are locally hand-woven cotton and the decorations are local artwork.

The staff is very helpful and accommodating. There is a travel agency on site for assisting you (if you need it) with onward travel).

The location of the hotel is just excellent. You can walk all over downtown from the hotel easily. And you will love visiting Ouagadougou which I think may have one of the best artisanal/crafts scenes in the whole of Africa. And all the food is wonderful with a nice French influence!

A nice hotel with a pool and good food near the centre of Ouaga. Very green (but I was there during the rainy season) with quirky metal statues around.
Taxi drivers found it hard to find for some reason, but tell them its next to the German embassy.
The rooms are pleasant, if a little dark, and the staff very friendly. They coped with my poor French!
The menu is limited but great quality. After a year in Ghana it seemed like paradise.

I stayed for 2 weeks in February. The hotel is in a quiet part of Ouaga. The menu was average and the breakfast below par. The rooms are on a chalet basis, are quite large but sparcely furnished. The beds are like concrete. Otherwise it is functional.
