Description: A unique dining experience in Gaborone, centrally located in the heart of the city in a quiet residential neighborhood. Caravela offers three distinct dining areas to choose from - a gorgeous outdoor garden to enjoy summertime lunch and quiet evening dinners, a bar dining area with a casual ambiance and warm fire in the winter months and an inside, air-conditioned dining area for those business meals or special occasions. Portuguese cuisine is served with seafood being the house specialty. The menu is varied with choices of beef, pork, chicken, lamb and vegetarian offerings. Main entree prices begin at P69. All food is prepared fresh on site and may be customized to your individual tastes and diet. Large groups can be accommodated with quick service for those needing to return to the office. Take away food may be ordered as well as platters for office meetings. Friendly service in a comfortable atmosphere.

“Portuguese Stateside”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2013

While In Gaborone, it is sometimes difficult to not wish for a dining experience on or near the water; yet, Caravela's can almost make make up for it. The outdoor/indoor restaurant has wonderful ambience and perhaps the tastiest food in Gabs. The menu is creative and meets the demands of a "foody." The dishes are inspiring in terms of a range of textures and spices. Unlike some of the mundane food found in some Gabs restaurants, the dining here is sumptuous. Most nights the place is packed and a look around clearly suggests that people are enjoying themselves. Perhaps this is the case, as Carevela is not ensconced in a mall. Rather it exudes a cultural experience that suggests Gabs has classy taste. A trip to this restaurant will become a favorite destination--it is a uniquely, wonderful place to done amidst friends.

“Mediterranean flare in the capital city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

Tucked away in a small neighborhood, Caravela was a delight to have a nice dinner in Gabs. Food was delicious, service was helpful and there was a bar and a nice outdoor seating area as well. Delightful evening all around.

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

This owner-managed restaurant has sported great seafood meals, amongst their other meals, for many years. On placing one's order a very short wait is experienced after which your piping hot meal is before you, all succulent, juicy and tasty.

Not necessarily a 5 star layout to the establishment but everything else is really excellent.

A personal favorite has been the queen prawns and chips...

“Seafood is surprisingly good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

The outside dining area is very pleasant, and staff are attentive but not intrusive. Prices are reasonable for the quality, although they go higher than the summary here suggests -- there are dishes like grilled salt cod that cost over $20 US, and the grilled sardines or calamari are about $15. But they manage to do a very good job with the seafood -- it is of course all deep frozen, but they manage to cook it so you would not know. Wine prices are fairly high, but beer reasonable. Good coffees. Strongly recommend if you want a a good European-style meal.

“Expect the unexpected.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

The restaurant is so ideal for more private functions and business meal meetings. The minute you step inside the gate, it's a wow experience because the location suggests something else different to the real experience of mood and scene inside. The outside eating arrangement to suit your taste.
