The location of the hotel is conveniently close to the airport, but ideal for downtown. The rooms are large, and comfortable, but dark and somewhat damp. The hotel is in need of an ugrade - it seems stuck in the 1970's. A bad drain smell occupies every corner of the hotel.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your positive feedback about our location and accommodation.
It is a fact that Hotel Alvalade is in need of an upgrade but since the beginning of August of this year, the hotel as entered its renovation process. We have started with the swimming pool area and the swimming pool bar will be reopened. Afterwards, we will begin the bedrooms renovation, in which, we will improve the lightening ambience. After the remodeling, the bedrooms will look modern and lighter in colors.
Thus, we are looking forward to welcome you again in your future visits and hopefully you will be satisfied with the improvements.

Yours sincerely,

Sara Rodrigues

I stayed for a week at the hotel in July 13 and overall it was OK but needs a bit of TLC.The staff are generally good but it did take 30 mins to check out.

It appears that the owners prefer to spend their attention on the other 2 hotels it owns.

If you are doing business in the town it is probably not the best located hotel taking 30-40 mins to get into town because of the traffic problems.

In Angola it's all business, the country does not have tourism, unfortunately. Then this hotel does not have an Internet connection working since I started to come to Angola, 3 years ago.

So you are isolated from your country, your family, your things and you do not have Internet. How about that?

Service is lazy but it's not a feature reserved to Alvalade hotel - it's spread around the country's culture.

It's old-fashioned. Some people like, for me it's a bad taste.

Very straight to the point... business hotel, business city, business destination, without Internet?

Outrageous. Choose Baia hotel instead.

Room Tip: Notice that I put "poor" to the bedrooms due the lack of Internet.

I was here for a week. I had looked at the reviews about this hotel and wasn't expecting much. So I have to admit I was positively surprised ... the rooms were spacious and clean. The water pressure in the shower was wonderful! The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was pretty good. The price levels in Luanda are what they are, so there is not much more to say about it. So overall this was better than the previous reviews had led me to believe. But for now, EPIC SANA sets the standard in the city.

Clean, spacious rooms and bathrooms. At check-in, some keycards got mixed up and some of us had to have them changed at reception.
At the bar the staff was unflexible regarding putting the drinks on the room bill.
Good breakfast buffet. ONe of the elevators wasn't working properly.
One of our rooms had a wet carpert and smelled very mouldy.

As previously I'll try to be as unemotional as possible about this hotel. This can be difficult when in my opinion the hotel really is taking advantage of its clientele, as others in this city may well be doing too. This is reputedly one of the most expensive countries in the world...and presumably such hotels are thoroughly enjoying excellent profits made when charging up to $500 per night. There is desperate poverty everywhere and I can just imagine what the hotel is able to get away with when paying its staff.

This hotel was built at least twenty years ago although no one seemed to know quite when! The basics are all appropriate for a four star hotel. The lobby is spacious and well designed, the rooms are of a reasonable size, it has a good sized restaurant with sensible opening hours and three elevators (but only two actually work...just...and they seem to like to travel together, probably for security!)
There is a datedness about the place which belies the age of the hotel, during which time little has probably been done. To add to the atmosphere the musac playing throughout the hotel is very 1970s; I heard a few tunes that brought back some memories! The rooms, as I say, are well proportioned but gloomy. The windows are quite small although the one in the photo actually was a corner room and benefited from a second window. Lighting is very poor with no ceiling lighting, beige walls, and low wattage light bulbs. There is only one socket at the desk so that to use your computer on its power supply you have to unplug the lamp, thus making things even worse. The furniture is fairly cheap imitation dark wood. TV sets are new and work well, as does the air conditioning. Carpet is very hard wearing and extremely basic. The bathroom is small but adequate but with little room around the wash basin to put anything (why don’t designers think of this?). Hot water takes about five minutes to come through, not that you necessarily need it in these temperatures. Room cleaning is somewhat patchy in the level of attention paid to detail and twice I had to ask to have the room cleaned at all.

I have to say that the staff are delightful; not always 100% effective as some of them speak little English but delightful just the same.

Breakfast is good and what you would expect from a four star hotel of this type.

Security is tight and quite efficient with card access needed to operate the elevators.

The hotel has a small swimming pool and lounge bed area on the 1st floor which means it inevitably gets shade from the main tower at various times of the day. The area is quite well maintained. There is also a bar on this level but I have never seen it unlocked.

There is a complimentary and efficiently run air conditioned bus service that goes three times a day to a beach club about forty minutes drive from the hotel.

My real problem with this hotel is the arrogance which it is operated. $32 for a very average hamburger, $6 per minute for a local phone call and $5 for a local beer that is $1 in the supermarket just down the road. Don’t these managements see that people just don’t use the facilities at these prices if there is an alternative? Even the receptionist commented that the price of local calls was quite scandalous when you can buy a local sim card including 15 minutes credit for $7. I was going to comment to the general manager but was told he only attends when needed as he has other businesses to run.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room...it may well be a lot brighter!

Dear Mr. David,
First of all, I would like to thank you for your comments. It is very important to be aware of our guest’s feedback.
The Hotel Alvalade opened its doors in August 2010 and will celebrate 10 years in August this year.
During your stay, you have experienced the inconvenience of having just 2 elevators working. The company responsible for the maintenance was working on one elevator due to an electronic malfunction. We apologize for the inconvenience.
In the beginning of the 2nd semester of this year, the hotel will enter its renovation process. We will start with the swimming pool area by changing its location to the opposite side, in order to have more hours with sun cover. The swimming pool bar will be reopened after we finish the renovation of the swimming pool area. Afterwards we will begin the bedrooms renovation, in which, we will improve the poor lightening which you have mentioned on your review. After the remodeling, the bedrooms will look modern and lighter in colors. Carpet and bathroom will be brand new.
Regarding your comments of the hot water, it was the first time we have heard this complaint, however we would really appreciate if you could send us the room number and dates of your stay, then we can take action.
We struggle every day to keep our housekeeping staff focused on details, your comments regarding the room cleaning will serve as an example to reinforce it to all the housekeeping team.
I apologize if someone told you that I was not available to meet you, I personally would like to highlight that we care about our guests and they are our number one priority, therefor I am always available to receive our guests.
Once again, I really appreciate the time you have taken in giving us your comments and we hope to have you, once again, as our guest in the near future.
Sincerely yours,
Diogo Marques

Location is next to Alvalade Area where are embassies, consulates, great and expenses villas.
If your meeting are scheduled in the center, forget this Hotel.
