“Very cojmfortable for a business trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

After a couple of stays at the Skyna I was booked in here by the company. Overall I'd say it was quite a bit better, although much was the same. The first thing is that it's off the highway a bit out of town (less than a mile) and so doesn't suffer from the mad intersection and traffic outside. Pick up busses are easier. Reception is polished and efficient. Rooms clearly a few years newer than Skyna. Would've been nice to find a beer in the mini bar.
There's a pool on the roof - this is on the 8th floor and the wind was really whistling this week. Hard to reconcile 22deg C and June 21st with Mid winter's day. Luckily the pool was closed for maintenance so I didn't have to be brave. From the pool you see across a narrow strip of water to a shanty town which is apparently soon to be 'improved'. Over the shanty town though was a great sunset.
Restaurant was fine - Just offered a buffet, but 4 courses available and all very acceptable. Also cooked steaks and omelettes to order. Just the $72+drinks that seems a lot but is par for the course here.
Breakfast from 6 is a pleasant buffet.
All in all a comfortable place within the parameters of Luanda.

Room Tip: Half are sea and shanty town facing and half face inland with view of the President's mausoleum...

I've been here 3 times and in the last time for 3 days there were no hot water for shower !
it took them 3 days to send someone to check the water - but so far with no luck.

check before you make reservation if it's worth paying the amount they charge for a room with no hot water.

beside that, the hotel is nice clean and quiet, situated in a good place to reach all places in and around Luanda.

Room Tip: always ask for a sea view room

Dear Guest
Thank you for the time you spent writing your comments and for your preference demonstrated by staying with us on several occasions. We are very sorry that on your last stay you went 3 days without hot water. It is not at all the kind of standard and service we want to provide to our guests.
Fortunately that is an incident that is solved and we hope that on your next visit to Luanda you will trust us once again by staying with us and confirming that by yourself.
With our best regards

Arrived at the hotel and got a pleasant surprise as the Baia is a Very nice hotel indeed, rooms very clean and comfortable, buffets on at luch & dinner time were excellent.
Staff very well turned out and helpful.
Prices are HIGH but this is normal throughout Luanda so be prepared to pay top $$ when eating out or in at the hotel.
No facilities to make a hot drink in the room which was a slight let down.
Small gym & pool on the top floor which is a nice area to wind down after a busy day with a drink and to watch the sunset.
Overall a very pleasant stay at the hotel.

As with all things in Angola, the prices here are astronomical. The rates are high as is everything else. A coke and tuna sandwich is around $35. When you first arrive, the hotel appears modern, clean and comfortable. The small pool area is nice, the gym is fine and the overall presentation is good. But beyond this facade, the TV service is very patchy, the internet is very slow and the service from staff is incredibly slow and the levels of English are again low. Getting served in a bar or restaurant takes a long time, they seem understaffed, the quality of food is poor and if you make a request you always have to make it two or three more times. If these things, which are fundemmental, are resolved, this will be a good hotel, but simply having bits of fruit around the hotel do not cover up some real service issues.

Best service in Luanda, great staff. Fabulous food and very good cleaning, Great WiFi.
Best gimnasium in Luanda, with sea view and great swimming pool at the top floor.
If you are going in business staying outside central Luanda is very usefull and peacefull,

Room Tip: Sea View are the Best, but City View is not bad too.

Taking in mind costs of hotels in Luanda, this hotel seems to be for me the best choice. Rooms are great and modern, WIFI all over, decent breakfast, ok service.

A lovely pool and gym on the top, for a very chilling late afternoon. Its not a very big hotel, so you dont feel your kind of lost inside it...

Airport pick up could be available.
Rates could be better, but then all Luanda hotels had to do the same. Not sure its going to happen....

This week I have had the pleasure of staying in both this hotel and the Hotel President in Luanda allowing me a fair comparisson of the two properties. The Hotel Baia is definately better fitted out on the interior finsihing (shown with the usual Angolan over pricing of US 500+ per night...), but there are definate disadvantages to the Hotel President (US$ 320 per night) when it comes to the services provided.

Firstly, as an extensive global business traveller, I always have a great need for a good internet service. The wireless internet in the Hotel Baia is barely adequate and is definately not delivering the performacnce that the Hotel President wired internet provides. If internet is important to you, as it is with me, then this hotel would not be my first choice.

The second issue I have is that to order food from the Room Service menu at the Hotel Baia, it appears you have to first go to the reception area and pay for it before they will serve it to you. I spend nearly 200 nights a year in hotels, and have done for 16 years in a region that covers all of Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central Asia....this is an absolute first for me. It apparrently is not possible to add the bill to the room bill. Ridiculous!!!

So, I have now stayed here two times...the first and the last.....bring on the Hotel President....
