I was at Skyna in December last year and I was amazed by the service offered. No one spoke english, and the receptionist was terrible... Your rooms were clean and spacious but the air there was stale.I hope you work on these factors so all your guests can say good things about your hotel.

Yes it is expensive and the staff could try harder with customer service but this modern hotel in the heart of Luanda delivers what mst business travellers want. Clean and safe lifts work rooms are clean Airconditioning works the bar s comfortable and suitable for families which can be unusual. Restaurant is not the best in the City but is passable and wi if works. Overall a good bet for business.

Visited Skyna Hotel in November 2012 and I can say for sure that this hotel has the worst service ever!!!

Pros:
- Surprisingly bathroom was good

Cons:
- Service at the reception is terrible, took more than 20min for check-in.
- Don't bother calling room service, no one speaks English. Tried to order a club sandwich. Since November 2012 I’m still waiting…
- Food at the restaurant is well below average.
- Rooms are dark, air-condition is noisy
- Bed mattress is too hard

Even in Luanda where everything is expensive, the ratio price/quality of this hotel is poor. Does not deserve the 5 stars stuck on the entry. Gym room has just the minimum, bathroom is very average and I have non working lights in my room.

I stayed for nearly three weeks at the Skyna Hotel in the heart of Luanda's business district. I was working and visiting with other colleagues who stayed at the Hotel Presidente, Hotel Continental, and Hotel Praiamar. For location, friendly service, and *reasonably* nice accomodations, I prefer the Hotel Skyna to each of the others I visited. As others on here have said, you'll be happier if you ask for a room on one of the upper floors (floors 10 - 13) or on the backside of the hotel (the backside rooms have the added advantage of offering a beautiful view of the bay, the Ilha de la Luanda beyond, and the Marginal that fronts the bay).

I found the service to be universally friendly and helpful. I didn't use the hotel restaurant at all except for breakfast, which I thought was very good -- but I couldn't bring myself to pay the extraordinarily high prices for the dinner buffet ($76 per person). You'll do better around the corner at the Cervezejaria Tendinha or up the hill at one of several restaurants on the street the hotel face (Avenida Portugal at the hotel's location, but then becomes Rua de Reina ??? is you continue to the east.

This is an extremely expensive hotel in a very costly city -- but given the alternatives, it's a good choice.

By the way, don't be afraid to get out of the hotel and wander the city, explore, and meet the locals -- Luanda is safe, friendly, and interesting.

Also by the way, Senhor Francisco Oliviera, one of the managers, was extremely kind and helpful to me when I checked out unexpectedly in the middle of my stay (provincial travels) and then checked back in at a time when the hotel was already overbooked. As I said, the staff at the Skyna is friendly, helpful, and very accomodating. Don't expect American or European standards, despite the price, but remember that this is Luanda, not London. Skyna is delivering 4 star service in a 1 star environment, and that deserves notice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back (ocean-facing) side of the hotel. You'll have better, quieter views...

As all the hotels in Luanda, this one is overpriced as well. A standard double room costs as much as $385 but ... come on: more than 99% of the Skyna hotel's clients have their rooms paid by their companies. Starting from this point, I will not judge the hotel by what you can expect for this money in Europe or in South Asia but in Luanda.
As I didn't paid the room from my wallet, I enjoyed my stay.
The hotel is located in Ingombota quarter, just a walking distance from the waterfront and from some architectural attractions such as the Central Bank of Angola, the Government of the Luanda Province and whatever colonial church. There are some African art shops around, some restaurants and coffee-shops. There are detailed city maps available for free in the hotel's lobby, so you can grab one and take a walk around.
The hotel's lobby is small, without anything special. There is a waiting lounge in front of the reception desk with comfy chairs and sofas, where you can enjoy a glass of good brandy waiting for the driver. One shot of brandy is around $25.
The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable. There is a water heater in the room as they offer tea, coffee and plain water on the house. The coffee is coming with cinnamon sticks ("pau de canela") and brown sugar. The WiFi works well and it's free of charge. Ask for a room with a sea view, you may enjoy it! The flat TV set offers like 40 channels or so (in Portuguese, French and English)
The bathroom is also large and well upgraded. Fluffy towels, fine toiletries, ventilation working well. I did not experience problems in adjusting the water's temperature.
I took the dinner in the hotel's restaurant. The restaurant has nothing special in terms of style or decoration, but the buffet was really good. I decided for grilled lobsters with some local rice with veggies and a bottle of dry white wine from Portugal. Good choice!
The breakfast was OK as well. A quite generous selection of food stuff, not extraordinary, but fair enough. I enjoyed some tropical fruits and a combination of fermented French cheese. The coffee was also good.
A nice stay, overall (on the Company's expenses, I repeat)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view, located on the top levels.
