Rouxinol Boutique Hotel
Ranked #2 of 43 Luanda B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

Stayed for 4 nights at Rouxinol and enjoyed them all. The internationally minded Persian owners that have travelled the world before setting up this guesthouse a few years ago go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast yum, and the internet works well. While Luanda is an extremely expensive place to stay (320 a night here), I still felt that the transportation provided by the hotel was a bit pricey. Make sure to hire a car and driver to get around the city and leave the rest to Rouxinol.

I have been coming to Luanda since 1998 and back then the choice of hotels and guest houses was very limited. It was also nearly impossible to find a room unless you booked weeks in advance. Today all that has changed and there is a wider variety and finding a room is so much easier.
If you have a budget and don;t want to spend the normal $400 a night for a room in Luanda, then the Rouxinol is a very good option. It has all you need to make your stay enjoyable and having the owners on site means that most problems or needs are dealt with immediately.
Some rooms are larger than others and I particularly like the new wing. With 21 rooms it is a boutique hotel and offers the weary traveler a welcomed oasis from the madness of Luanda traffic. Since I discovered it a year ago it is the only place i stay in. There is also a spa within two mins walking from the hotel and there one can find pilates, yoga and treatments. Having this so close by is a huge plus.

Very comfortable, enjoyable, clean and secure guesthouse located in Miramar. Staff is very nice and very helpful. Guesthouse offers good breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would recommend it without hesitation. Staid there twice already, three weeks the first time and two weeks this time.

The owners of this guest house can really take very good care of your needs while in Luanda. I have stayed there 4 or 5 times. In between, I have stayed at a variety of other hotels and guest houses in Luanda and I am always more than please when a room is free for me here.

I have stayed twice in this small, comfortable English-speaking hotel and have been deeply-impressed by the owning family and management support for the client. They have an empathy lacking in many hotels in the world and from reports, certainly of other larger places in Luanda. Angola is a tough place for the traveller. Luanda is one if not THE world's most expensive cities. You need the kind of help this B&B provides. In my first stay in Oct 2010, the family owners sorted out a local cell phone chip and set the phone up. On both trips toalling around 3 weeks, the broadband connection was never interrupted, nor water. Electricity blinked once. Engineer owner has a belt and braces approach to the country's difficulties, having installed an emergency generator and a state-of-the-art water recycling system. Air con is perfectly quiet. Softly wailing dogs next door may disturb light sleepers. I slept like a log every night.
The rooms are kept spotlessly clean, although some seem not to have much room to swing a cat.
While the management and owners are very helpful and will try and provide the service you ask for, the rest of the staff - cleaners and kitchen workers are not followers of routine so unless managed closely tend to neglect doing things occasionally ie forget to put out all the food at breakfast time, replenish the fridge etc but this is very common in Angola were illiteracy rates are 50% plus and few have the benefit of continuous on-the-job training.
Given what is on offer elsewhere in the city now, the prices at Rouxinol considering the servioe are very good.
If you want any meals apart from breakfast give plenty of warning otherwise you may have to wait a very long time for cooked food. Manager Joao Pedro does a very good baked fish.
Tea-making facilities and fridge available in rooms.
An interesting question is will prices fall for Luanda accommodation as new, large hotels go up. I noticed the 250-room Sana Hotel is now being fitted out. Some think prices will stay high as hotel costs to run are showing no signs of falling.

Small, simple, very basic services. Does not have gym or others and food options are limited.
However, food is reasonable and staff is reliable, place is clean and wifi DOES work all the time.
Very cozy familiar ambience, in any city of Europe this would be a choice, if you like this kind of ambience, but in Luanda it is extraordinary.
Service is better than the competitors by price, and the few hotels which are better are much more expensive.
Location is very central, near Intercontinental which should open (hopefully) in 2011.
I will stay there in my next trip.

I was in Luanda for a week, and friends had warned me about the hassle of everyday life in the angolan capital. In the Hotel Rouxinol, we found a retreat of comfort and quiet. Breakfast is included, and all rooms have wi-fi access to the internet. Though it seems expensive, I found out that the prices are fair by Luanda standards. One must remember that Luanda is currently considered the most expensive city in the world for expatriates.
