Had an amazing stay @ Lokuthula Lodge. The squeaky clean lodges really make you feel like home away from home. We were a group of about 8 Adults but we still had room for more people. The Boma Restaurant which is just a few metres away serves sumptuous meals you will die for. Try Lokuthula this Festive Season.

Serene, cosy and so very close to the bush! It was a lovely experience given the animals right outside the lodge, the cleanliness, lodge design, pools within two minutes walk to keep the kids entertained, great snacks at the Boma Restaurant Bar... it was great! Definitely going back to live there!

If you are going to Vic Falls, then stay over at the Lokuthula Self Catering lodges. We had 8 in our group and there was plenty of room for us all.

Animals come right up to the front of the lodge and you look out onto the bush - its a great experience.

You do have to be careful to close up the canvas doors properly as the Baboons will try to get in and trash the place.

Will definitely go back in the future

Unfortunately we did not enjoy our stay at the Lokuthula Lodge. We had an incident the second day of our stay. This was the day we did the day trip to Chobe National Park. This particular day we left the lodge around 7am in the morning and didn’t return until around about 6.45pm in the evening. On our return my mum had noticed that some of her things had been moved in her room. On closer inspection her camera, Australian dollars and US dollars that where in her locked bag were taken from her room. We went to report the incident at the reception area at Lokuthula Lodge however they closed at 7pm. We where going to go up to the Safari Lodge Hotel but decided to report the matter the next day as my elderly parents where tired from the long day in Botswana. The following morning we reported the incident to the lady in reception at Lokuthula who in turn rang security. The security officer took our details and because we had a few things planned that day we said could we finish this in the afternoon. As all we wanted was a report from the lodge for insurance purposes.

Anyway that evening when we returned to our Lodge we were greeting by the head of security the duty manager of the resort and 2 more security personal. They quizzed us for the next hour an a half and at one stage it was like they were putting the blame on us. At 9.30pm they wanted to take my mum & dad to the police station where I bluntly refused. There was no way in the world they were going to be driven down there at this time of night to make a report.

The next day we where going home so we told them don’t worry about the police. We don’t want to report it any more we just want a report from your lodge stating what happened.
We never got our security report from the Lokuthula Lodge as they would not issue one without contacting the police. And we never really got an apology. They did offered us $10 each person for admission to the Boma dinner that night which would have been half over. But we declined being our last night and the fact it was so late already. That night I don’t know what they were expecting but they had two security guards standing outside our lodge. That made us start to think why they would post two guards around our lodge.

However that was not the only issue with the lodge when we went to the Safari Hotel to go for dinner they said, “What room are you from?” When we replied we are from Lokuthula Lodge. Within seconds he replied, “We are booked out,” and walked away. No sorry sir we are booked would you like to come later on, no he just turned and went about his business. Even at breakfast when we handed over our breakfast voucher they where not very helpful. The second morning at breakfast we had words again because they asked for our voucher and I said we gave it to you yesterday. The woman wandered off to see someone about it whilst we waited patiently at the entrance.

So unfortunately our stay at the Lokuthula Lodge was definitely not what we where expecting.

Hi Jason,

Thanks very much for you feedback. With regards to the issue of your possessions, please refer below to the process of events as described by our lodge manager, Daniel Mhlanga.

We apologise for any inconvenience and hope that the below clears some aspects of the incident up for all interested.

Guests registered as Vella x 6 lodge 20( in 17 Out 20 October 2013) reported missing valuables from the lodge.

In the morning on 18/10/13 they went to Chobe for a day trip and came back in the evening. At 16H00 on their way to Sunset Cruise on 19/10/13 they reported missing some valuables. They said the valuables were taken from their lodge on 18/10/13 when they were in Botswana for they day trip. Moses the duty manager and security were only able to talk to the guests in the evening after the cruise. They said the missing valuables/money(usd$200.00, AUS$200.00 and a camera were in the purse on the bed. Sibonginkosi the room attended said there was no purse on the bed when she got in to clean the bedroom. Moses begged them to have the matter reported to the police but they refused. They said they were tired and leaving the following day on the 20/10/13 so it was not necessary.

Every theft has to be reported to the police to obtain the report for insurance claims. It was also established during the investigations that one of the young men was in charge of locking /unlocking their bedroom. As for security, we have more than one 24 hours security details manning the property including Lokuthula lodges. During the night thus when they become very visible to ensure tight security. Management was not made aware of the incident in the restaurants. We treat all our guests with courtesy and utmost respect be it hotel or Lokuthula guests. In all circumstances management would apologize to guests and give correct facts/details. It is unfortunate that management only received the report in the evening and the following day the guests checked out. Management would offer complimentary meals in some instances to please the guests.

Stayed with friends at one of the 3 bedroom lodges in October. The lodges have a canvas wall which can be opened to let the wilderness in and spend many a happy hour watching the animals walking past. Rooms have fans but no air conditioning and the beds are on the small side. Was a great base for exploring Vic Falls and the free shuttle bus was a real benefit.

Thanks for the review and I'm glad that you enjoyed the 'wilderness' feel of our lodge. What a wonderful part of relaxing in the bush.
