“the perfect stay in Vic falls”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

It was our 4rd time at the vic falls and probably the best place we stayed at. The lodges are nice well maintained and up to date. We rented 4 and 6 persons lodges where the 6 is a bit more spacious even when you are with more then 6 people for a drink/braai. The link with the safari lodges offers a great opportunity. It has a wonderfull bar and a good restaurant. The free shuttle from the lodge into town is making it even a better experience as you are away from the center and in 5 minutes into town if you want to shop have a drink in another place/hotel or visit the falls.
We went eating one night to the Boma restaurant, which is a tourist experience but ended in a little argument... management of Boma is not really correct...

I certainly want to thank Precious who was a great support and help
and advise anybody to go it is probably the best value for money you get these days in Vic falls

Hi there in Brussels! Wow thanks for such an amazing review. We really appreciate it when people tell us that we are providing good value and great experience. As this is what we set out to do. Agreed - it is nice being out of the hustle of town but close enough to enjoy it. See you again soon!

Lokuthula lodges provide self-catering with comfort. For the standard of accommodation and the location, the price is very reasonable. It is set amongst luscious lawns amongst wondering bushbuck and warthogs. One can walk to the nearby Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, which has an amazing viewing platform above the vast African bush and the local waterhole where game can be seen coming to drink. It is the perfect place for one to have a drink of their own, or even a meal from the Makuwa Makuwa Restaurant. The lodges are spacious and comfortable, kept clean and in perfect order.

Thank you zimtraveller for your comments! We are glad you enjoy the view from Victoria Falls Safari Lodge - it is indeed a fantastic setting. Guests love to spend hours sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife go by. That waterhole has provided us with many magnificent sightings!

We are also glad you felt the price was reasonable at Lokuthula - the value for money is something on which we pride ourselves.

We have stayed at Lokuthula lodges for a week as a family. We prefer the self catering units as we were a family of 4. It is on the same premises as the Vistoria Falls Safari Lodges as well as the Boma restaurant. Which is a must to visit while in Zimbabwe. It is very convenient because the hotel has a shuttle running to town every hour. We also visit Chobe in Botswana which was only an hours drive. Don't forget to visit the Livingstone island on the Zambia side. This was the highlight of our trip.

Thank you Maretha for your kind review that sums up just why you enjoyed the comfort and privacy of our self-catering lodges. Not only are these spacious lodges in harmony with nature but also, quite uniquely, they offer easy access to the main lodge restaurant, bar, terrace, pool, wi-fi, spa, activities centre and library. You rightly point out these excellent benefits. Jonathan Hudson. Resort General Manager. gm@saflodge.co.zw

We're a family of 3 adults; parents and adult son, who had a fabulous stay at Lokuthula Lodges. The "hut" was charming, with 2 great bedrooms, a lovely bathroom, amply supplied kitchen, and darling warthogs to greet us for breakfast when we rolled up our canvas panel to welcome the day. The lodge hut very comfortable, and our son loved his upstairs quarters, giving plenty of privacy for us all. The staff was so friendly, and willing to do whatever you needed. Their was cleaning available daily, and the fresh linens were welcome. The shuttle service was such a convenience, and we appreciated that safety was #1, and that they shuttled you around the property after dark. The grounds were lovely, and access to the restaurants and facilities at the Safari Lodge were a plus. We loved watching the elephants at the watering hole while having cocktails. We enjoyed eating at the Boma, and the activity staff helped us plan a week of wonderful memories.

Room Tip: The lodges are numbered, so because I had a problem with my foot, we requested one closer to the mai...

Hello to you in Ohio. We really appreciate your very positive review of your stay at our self-catering lodges on-property at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Not only are they comfortable and affordable but they are really in tune with nature as you discovered each morning when you rolled up your terrace canvas. The on-the-hour shuttle to the twon centre just 10 minutes away is also a real benefit that we're delighted you mentioned and appreciated. Jonathan Hudson. Resort General Manager. gm@saflodge.co.zw

Great cottage style accommodation, loved that it was open to the bush from the living areas. Perfect for a family stay.
The Boma restaurant is on site which is a must do, very touristy but all the same a great night out.
This hotel is attached to the vic falls safari lodge and you get use of their facilities too including their amazing bar with views on to a pan visited by elephant and buck each day.
Be there for the vulture feeding 1pm.

Thank you Gemma for such a succinct and positive review of Lokuthula, our thatched self-catering lodges that really afford wonderful value for both the quality and comfort of the units, their connection with the natural world and all the facilities from the nearby hotel available to you. Thanks, too, for rating The Boma as a must-do....yes, it's touristy and that's how it has been designed. It is there to provide a night of fun for international tourists and provide a snapshot of various African traditions and cultures. Those who want "authentic" can go and visit a real traditional mud-hut village, so there are options.

Thanks for rating the Buffalo Bar, with its view of the waterhole and the incredible landscape, as "amazing" = next time Trip Advisor asks for suggestions for their "Best Bars in the World" feature I hope we can count on you to vote for The Buffalo Bar! This was a great place to stay. The facilities were more than we expected. Self-catering can really go both ways, it can be really good or really bad. Lokuthula had all the supplies we needed to cook great meals. The place was clean with all the linen we needed for our entire stay. The back wall rolls up like a tent so it was really nice to wake up and see the wildlife roaming around. The shuttle was very reliable for trips to town. The staff was extra helpful. We made it to the airport and discovered our passports were missing. We called the lodge and they sent someone to our room and not only did they find it but they sent someone thirty minutes to the airport right then so we wouldn't miss our flight!

The floors seemed really slippery and the stairs really steep so an elderly person or toddler may have some issues in this lodge. That is the only reason for not giving it 5 stars.

Room Tip: The Boma is a restaurant on site and is close enough to walk to. Be aware that the show is not reall...

Thank you Nina for such a positive post on our Lokuthula self-catering lodges. As you will see from many posts these comfortable thatched lodges really surprise our guests as they afford so much more than normal dreary b&b's with no outlook or character.

Lokuthula offers that great vista of the African landscape, a parade of animals at the waterhole and easy access to the main lodge bar and dining as well as to the festive Boma Restaurant for a taste of African food and entertainment. It was our pleasure to be of service by locating your passports and rushing them to the airport as it's these little things that stand out in the memory and we have an inspired team who take great delight in providing service with a smile.

Your comments on steep stairs are very valid and we are taking on board the slipperiness and will work on a solution to provide a firmer hold. Watch our blog or follow us on Facebook where we'll post little snippets like that. Jonathan Hudson. Resort General Manager. gm@saflodge.co.zw

had a couple of nights at Lokuthula lodge, great location with plenty of bushbuck, warthogs, mongoose running around. the lodges are clean and have everything one needs for a self-catering visit. we stayed in a three room lodge, the top floor is not ideal for elderly folk as the stairs are VERY steep.

Room Tip: make sure you choose a lodge without too many stairs for elderly folk

Thank you for posting your favourable comments on our self-catering Lokuthula Lodges. Our guests do find them very comfortable with the added dimension of the aura of real Africa. As b&b's go these lodges are the stand-out by far in the Victoria Falls area. As per another review here you have a good point re the steep stairs for the elderly, thus they will always need to be allocated the downstairs rooms. Jonathan Hudson.
