“Wonderful bush break at Imbabala”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2010

Imbabala provided the perfect venue for a short restorative break for our family (2 adults, 2 teenage girls)! The travel arrangements went very smoothly, the accommodation was extremely comfortable, and the service and food we received at Imbabala was great. We were lucky to be there at a quiet time and we were really made to feel like part of the family. We are all interested in birds and photography, and Imbabala provided plenty of opportunities for both! And the cherry on the top for us was when Karen (the manager) organised a surprise bush dinner for us on the floodplain of the Zambezi River, surrounded by the sounds of the African night - wonderful!

After missing our first day at Imbabala due to a delayed flight, we were warmly welcomed by Karen and staff, who offered us refreshments and already arranged for us to get involved in the activities after meeting the rest of the guests at the lodge.

In the short time we were there (one night), we managed to do a sunset cruise and see most of the animals of the area, go on a night and morning safari ride, as well as enjoying their sumptious dinner and hearty breakfast in full view of the watering hole where elephant and impala came to drink.

The staff are so helpful and knowledgeable about the animals and nature in the camp and we were most reluctant to leave.

Their hospitality is exceptional and the rooms are most comfortable.

If we ever return to Zimbabwe, I will want to stay at least 2 nights at Imbabala Lodge to get the most out of that wonderful part of the country.

When it came to celebrating my 30th I decided I needed a place that was incredibly special and would take me back to my roots (i'm originally Zimbabwean). Imbabala provided the perfect setting! There was a large group of us and all of our needs were catered for, from fishing trips to game drives to white water rafting and gorge jumping, and it never felt like it was any effort to any of the staff. The food and hospitality were outstanding, with the guides, stan and abe providing us with so many laughs and the wonderfully warm and welcoming Lodge Manager, Karen, who made us all feel like we were at home in the bush. Imbabala definitely stands in my books as one of the most precious spots this wonderful world has to offer.

Wonderful private reserve with 11 km frontage of the Zambezi River. Warmly welcomed by manager Karen Poole. Staff exceptionally friendly, flexible and kind. Wonderful value with all meals (including morning/afternoon tea!), sunset cruise on pontoon, game drives and even laundry included(we didnt expect that ;D). Felt exclusive with just 8 huts a good distance away from each other. Hammock on verandah a big plus! Monkeys scampering in trees. Careful...they steal food! Herd of maybe 100 plus impala took up residence each evening and stayed till morning.. . We got in a cruise, morning, afternoon and night game drives with brilliant guide Stan. Stan your the man.Thank you.You touched our hearts. We wil keep in touch. Meals were enjoyed with other guests and we had private candle light dinners for the honeymoon couple ;D. Food was really good. The place is run by Wild Horizons. Highly recommended.See you soon. Regards Andries and Welmari, RSA

Two nights there were definite highlight of our trip. Wonderfully serene private reserve with 11 km frontage of the Zambezi River. Warmly welcomed by manager Karen Poole. Wonderful value with all meals (including morning/afternoon tea!), sunset cruise on pontoon, game drives and even laundry included. Similar tariff bought room and breakfast only at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Felt exclusive with just 8 huts a good distance away from each other. Hammock on verandah a big plus! Monkeys scampering in trees. Careful...they steal food! Herd of maybe 100 plus impala took up residence each evening and stayed till morning. Real taste of reserve life. But you need good weather which we had most of the time. Did get dripped on through thatched roof one rainy night but only lightly. We got in a cruise, morning and afternoon game drives with brilliant guide Dharmesh. Meals were enjoyed with other guests and staff. Food was good. Lots of superlatives here I know. But truly well-earned. The place is run by Wild Horizons.

Imbabala was part of our honeymoon trip and we are so glad we stayed there!! There scenary is amazing, the staff are so welcoming and hospitalble, the food is fantastic and what's more, the lodge is extremely clean and safe. You are given game drives and river cruises and the ranger at the lodge has in depth local knowledge about birds, animals and even the local tribes. Once you've been to Imbabala you will expect all lodges to operate the way Imbabala does!!

to define......
.......an exclamation of surprise, wonder, pleasure, respect, appreciation, greatly impressed........ These words all attempt to describe an experience to be had at Imbabala Lodge, but as has been mentioned in other reviews words can not do justice in explaining how one feels being an honoured guest in a place that can only be described as "Heaven on Earth" Having believed after returning to Vic Falls Safari Lodge each year over the previous 4 years that every time was the ultimate African experience, I was to be surprised yet again during our 3 night stay at Imbabala Lodge. Once you arrive at Imbabala Lodge, it is as if you are transported into a world we all so often wish to be in. Everything is left behind as you drive down the little dirt road to the Lodge and you begin to live in the "Now" and take in every moment it has to offer from the friendly warm welcome to the comfortable, neat chalet, which has all the comforts one needs with a magnificent view of the Zambezi river across over the Impala and Warthog grazing, monkeys playing, baboons feasting on the fruit on the lush fresh cut lawn, birds twittering in the magnificent trees above, all only meters away. The food from breakfast/brunch, tea, game and river rides and dinners all have that special homemade touch. Where time is not important and one can savour every mouthful of freshly and passionately prepared and presented meals under the magnificent teak tree in the shade or under the stars with a heard of Impala settled meters away for the night on the lawn. The genuine warm friendly hospitality received from Karen, the delightful, enthusiastic, perfect host, manager, Abe and Stan the incredibly passionate and knowledgeable guides, both on the river to view birds and game to the bush and its rich animal sightings, to the rest of the wonderful staff at the lodge, is of world class standard that I challenge to be found and bettered anywhere else. For anyone wanting to get away from it all and experience the best of what the African bush and people have to offer I can only highly recommend a stay at Imbabala Lodge.

This is truly "home from home" and as much as every stay comes to an end, one leaves so refreshed, relaxed, enriched and enlivened and I look forward to hopefully having the honoured and privileged opportunity of visiting this incredibly special spot of planet and the friendly warm caring people, in the not too distant future again.
As the old Swahili proverb goes: "He who has tasted honey will return to the honey pot" !!!
