“a wonderful experience!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2009

This hotel was in a perfect location, not too far from the famed Victoria Falls, but on it's own private reserve. Each individual cottage unit consisted of a large sitting room, a vey large bedroom, and a large bathroom with a separate shower and claw foot tub which was in the middle of the room. The porch of each individual acommodation had a table and chairs, and looked upon a watering hole, so the guest could easily view the wildlife.
The food and service were acceptable, but exceptional for a private reserve in Africa

We were picked up in a very welcoming, air conditioned car, with a really friendly driver and taken to the hotel (having spent three weeks on a camping trip covering 5,500 km). At the hotel we were welcomed with cold flannels, refreshing cocktails and , as we would find all the time, a smile!

The suite we were in was spacious and decked out, as the rest of the place, in a colonial style. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the bathroom very nice. The Hotel has its own watering hole where we saw a host of animals including buffalo, zebra and kudu. It was lovely just sitting out watching the animals with the sun setting in the background... beautiful!

The breakfast at the hotel was good, you can get pretty much what ever you wanted, however i have to admit that the one thing that may have let the hotel down was dinner. Food was ok, but it was no more than decent pub food and if anything, slightly over cooked and under seasoned. It just didnt match the quality of the rest of the place. The wine list is also very odd; 1 bottle at $35, 2 at $60 then the rest are $200 to £3,000... If I'm going to spend that on a bottle I want to have it with great food.

All that said it was a great place to stay and I would definately say I would go back and I am looking forward to going to one of the hotel group's places in Mozambique, as the people were amazing and made it a great place to stay. Enjoy!

This was the first stop for us on our honeymoon which my husband researched and put together in great detail. The hotel is in a beautiful location on the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve which is only a very short car journey into Vicotria Falls town. We had the honeymoon suite which comes with its own hot tub. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or attentive, we stayed 4 nights and I cried when we left it was so special. It is amazingly peacful and fantastic to be able to sit with a drink and watch as baboons, zebra, buffalo, and many more animals casually walk through to the watering hole in front of the terrace right in front of you - absolutely amazing. The Zimbabwe side of the falls, as we'd read, did seem to be a much superior side from which to see the falls, with many more viewpoints that the Zambia side, which has become more popular recently. Its felt very safe and hospitable to us and the hotel driver looks after you very well (thanks Prisha!). The hotel was quite quiet while we were there, partly as it is winter, but also as they are starting to come out of the troubles. Guests here were mainly English, American and Spanish and the guest book was full of praise. The food was good, not amazing and a bit similar, but this may have been down to the fact that it was so quiet and that many people tend to stay only a few nights to do the activities, of which there are plenty to do. The cheapest bottle fo wine (even for a SA bottle, or soemthing you'd pick up in the supermarket at home) was $40 - very expensive compared to the other hotels, but the service, people and location more than made up for it. We ate in Victoria Falls hotel in town which was old colonial style with a good view of the bridge and 'smoke' but we were glad we hadn't stayed here as it felt very tired and wasn't as magical. Appart from the trip to see the falls we did a canoe trip down the Zambezie river which was dangerous but exciting (lots of hippos and crocs) but the river was beautiful. We also did the private river cruise and I would certainly recommend this - we definitely had the best private boat (there were us and one other couple onboard) and therefore the best views of everyone on the whole river. We saw elephants swimming across the river which is pretty special, and our boat could get in much shallower water than many of the others so we got the best position when there was a spot, and also some of the cheaper canoe boats could be toppled by hippos! We also went to the one Boma in town (at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge) which we wouldn't recommend as it was expensive, busy and we didn't rate the food - very touristy. Overall we'd love to go back, one of the highlights of our 3 week stay in Africa. Magical!

My 26 year old daughter and I spent 3 incredible days and nights at the Stanley and Livingstone Hotel. Airport pick up was flawless. The hotel is on a private game reserve,
barely 10 minutes from the center of Victoria Falls. The entire place was breathtakingly beautiful. The decor is very early Colonial Africa, very luxurious but with a strong African influence. Our large suite was spacious and elegant, with modern amenities. Suites overlook spacious grounds and a watering hole that is lighted at night for best viewing. Hidden electric fences provide excellent security while allowing for outstanding game viewing.
The staff were friendly and extremely efficient. The meals were excellent. The concierge negotiated private cruises, Lion Walks and Elephant Safaris. We felt extremely privileged and exclusive. I thought the value at the S&L was excellent and I would definitely return and recommend this hotel to others.

This place was nearly deserted during our stay...the only other guests were a very nice couple from the UK. The rooms are nice but they look a bit stodgy and 'Victorian" but the overall feel was good. The only complaint would be the prices of extras that are not at all in alignment with reality...having been to Botswana and South Africa beforehand, I found the prices for wine (cheapest bottle $45) , lunch, and laundry (over $60 for a load of laundry that costed $15 in S.A.) to be criminal as other guests noted in the guest book that I perused before departure. We were generous with the staff but felt fleeced after checkout. The employees would benefit so much more if their management would revise the prices for incidentals.

We had a great experience at this hotel. The rooms are stunning - very spacious and richly decorated. You have plenty of privacy and space away from other guests. The front view overlooks hectares of wild park. We saw a herd of wild buffalo, couple of elephants and deer (or were they buck) just a few hundred feet away from our suite. The staff treat you like kings and queens, and are very accommodating to suit your needs. One of us was vegetarian and they cooked up a terrific four-course meal. The meat dishes of course, were also delicious. The hotel is about 15 minutes drive away from the falls. The town of Vic Falls itself was not that charming, so we were thrilled to be set away in the bush. Our only complaint was the driver was not on time fetching us from the falls. But other than that, all staff and service was exceptional.

We chosen this hotel following the amazing reviews we found on this website and it has exceeded our expectations. We were not expecting to see wild animals at all as we were visiting the famous Falls there....but we were so lucky to see elephants, zebras, hyppos and crocodiles.
The hotel is unbelievably perfect, staff is always on call to help you, they clean your room as you go for breakfast, laundry is back in your room at the speed of light, food is sooooo delicious and rooms are just luxury suites so private and with all you can imagine.....it's a 5 stars hotel and it deserve even a sixth star.
Super clean, the garden is so well taken care of and Bernardo our guide from the hotel was incredibly friendly and showed us everything we had to see in a short time as we had only 1 day in Zimbabwe.
