“An experience of our lives”
Reviewed September 28, 2011

We cannot speak highly enough of this Hotel and it's friendly, very helpful staff. Everything was so relaxed and pleasant. Our rooms were lovely and being on the river we just lost ourselves while sitting on the verandah. The grounds of the hotel are beautifully kept and the food is quite delicious. We had 4 elephants join us for dinner on our first night. As quietly as they arrived so they left. Our transport was always on time and queques were not too long at border posts. We didn't want to leave the hotel to come home.

Room Tip: We stayed in adjoining rooms on the upper level somewhere in the middle. So pleasant.

We cannot rate this hotel and its friendly, lovely staff high enough. Our meals were delicious, our rooms clean and elegant, the grounds so well manicured and having the river right there was wonderful. Our tranasfers were prompt, customs a bit of a wait but the friendly, helpful people made up for that. On the first night in the hotel 4 elephants came to visit during dinner. What a thrill. We saw a lot of elephants on our river cruise - one actually swimming.

Stayed at the Azambezi in August 2011 for 2 nights. We were welcomed by the staff from our cars. After checking in we were then shown to our amazing rooms. Because we had our 2 sons with us, we were given adjoining rooms, and the boys loved it. The rooms were beautifully decorated and spotless. They were overlooking the pool and the mighty Zambezi river. The massive flat screen on the wall added extra quality to the room.

The staff were polite and willing to help. The meals in the open air dining area were fantastic. There was a wide selection of dishes and the food was hot.

Our sunset cruise departed right by the lodge itself. The location and design of the lodge is excellent. Top marks to the front office staff who made our stay memorable.

We arrived late in the evening after some delays in Jo'berg.
From the first minute, having been met at Vic Falls Airport by their courtesy van and a most engaging and personable staff member- to checkout (when porters shed tears as we departed), this was one for the Great Travels Record Book.

Everything about l'Azambezi was EXCELLENT.

The buildings, the architecture, the grounds, the convenience, the food service, the entertainment, the staff and the price. Just perfect.

After a quick check-in process, I'm in my room getting settled.
Suddenly, there are drums being beaten and Zulu warriors are chanting down below my window.
I hide in the closet.
A knock on the door, it's one of the staff, "You come to dinner now..." and I'm guided through the grounds to open air seating in and amongst local singers and dancers, with an impossibly well stocked and wide variety of delicacies in a buffet to choose from.
[I kept saying to myself, 'it can't get any better than this...'

Little did I know.

While the Lodge is located just a leisurely drive from town (Victoria Falls)- about 8km, if memory serves, it is both convenient and remote- in a good way.
Anything and everything you want or need is right there, or they'll get it for you.

At dawn the next day I took a sumptuous breakfast (cooked to order) in one of the gazebos on the grounds; little did I know but they ran to the local bakery to get a type of bread I like! (imagine that- feeling like you are the ONLY guest at a place.)

The river cruise that evening (some call it 'booze cruise') was but a short walk to the nearby dock from the main part of the hotel- and a wonderful time was had by all!
Great boat, great Captain, great service, and a sunset on the Zambezi.
Couldn't ask for more.

Rather than inundate you with a minute by minute, please allow this--- I'd stay at the River Lodge again, without hesitation.
While the wonderful people of Zimbabwe, the wildlife, the scenery and Victoria Falls in all its Seven Wonders of the World grandeur are certainly a draw; this hotel is an equal to that. A lot to say about a place.
You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Inner semicircle, ground floor, center- ideal spot.

Really vacations had never been so much fun..it was a great break from work and yes it worked also. Me and my wife had a 5 days stay in this hotel and it actually turned out to be value for money. A’Zambezi River Lodge is a minute drive away from Victoria falls. The staffs are very courteous and gentle of course understanding the privacy that a young couple needs. Ill surely tell about this place and this hotel to my friends so that they can also experience this lovely piece of hospitality.

We and young son put up at this lodge when we were on a trip to the famous Victoria Falls. It is a quiet place away from the crowded town. The beautiful hotel and its clean and well maintained grounds give an elegant look to the hotel. The freshly renovated room looked new and it provided for a comfortable stay. The room service was prompt and the staffs were great. My jovial son made some great friends with the friendly and highly helpful staffs. The restaurant serves excellent food. The swimming pool was a nice place to cool us after a trip outside.
