“Gorgeous Gorges”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed at Gorges Lodge for 3 nights. We were greeted with some juice at the bar, overlooking the most spectacular river gorge I have ever seen. Our chalet was based on the tip of the Gorge looking down upon the river raging below. We were based about 20km away from the Victoria Falls town, so going out to town wasnt much of an option, but we had a driver who was more than accommodating when driving us to the town and waiting whenever we needed to grab food or a few things. The staff were definately what made our stay even more pleasant. They took care of us like I cannot describe. Definately would advise anyone to go!!

We, a group of two couples, stayed at Gorges mid of November 2012 for two nights. We were very heartly welcomed by the owner family and the staff at the beautiful gardens surrounding the lodge. The bungalows are comfortable, the rooms are very clean and offer lots of space, the view from each terrasse and from hall and bar at the main buidling are unforgetable - straight to the river Zambezi and 200 m deep into the gorge. Dinner, three courses, was nice, full English breakfast and excellent drinks at the bar. All transfers by bus and taxi to Vic Falls, driving distance approx. 30 min, and to Botsuana border, approx. 1 hour, arranged by the onwers were punctual. Tip: Book guided tour with onwer's daughter Carry to the Falls Park and enjoy quite relaxing afternoons at the Lodge. Highlight: A group of staff family members did exclsuviley for us a traditional group dance and vocal performance, best ever seen! All in all: it has been our first visit at Zimbawe and we will defenitely come back - we came as strangers and left as friends, thanks to the whole Gorges Lodge team!

Room Tip: all bungalows and suits (2 floor houses) offer excellent views to the Zambezi gorge

Stayed here multiple times and absolutely adore this lodge! From the views to the food, our stay has always been superb. It's nice that you are secluded from the hustle of the city, yet only a short drive away.
The bar/restaurant is beautiful and overlooks the gorge which makes for incredible pictures.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in december. From the onset we were treated with the most warm and homely reception from Chris and Debbie and all the staff. The service was excellent and way beter than you would expect from a typical hotel. Everything was brilliant and we were made to feel completely at home.

We stayed in room 10 which is the farthest away but is completely private and has its own viewing area of the gorge. There are only 10 rooms so you will never be crowded by other guests. The views from everywhere are some of the best you will ever see and the grounds are spectacular.

The lodge is situated about 30 minutes away from town which is the only downside. However it is well worth it. You won't find the same views or service at the hotels in town. The lodge provides complimentary transportation each day to and from town.

The food was excellent. I advise you take the option including dinner as the lodge is completely remote with nothing else close by. You can even choose what time you want breakfast.

The room was spacious with a large bathroom and balcony. However we did have 2 single beds. Assuming they have some rooms with double beds, make sure you ask for that if thats what you want.

There is no TV or internet in the room, but unless that is what your there for, it is actually a very good thing, as there are way better things to do with your time.

All in all it is possibly the best place we have stayed and we have been to over 100 countries. We will definately return one day.

If your looking for a good day trip, try the Botswana Safari or White water rafting. Both were amazing and the lodge can prearrange them before you get there.

My husband and I stayed here for only one night, after a 2-week long camping safari. It was NOT long enough! This unique lodge is absolutely beautiful, stunningly landscaped, ultra comfortable, with the most spectacular views of the Zambezi River. We also noticed a sign in the room that mentioned they are in the midst of renovations, so it can only get better when new guests go there.

The grounds are beautiful - very natural, colorful, lush. There is a small pool area that overlooks the river, a bar/lounge area, and a dining room that also do the same. The lounge even has a fireplace. It is a cozy, visually stunning lodge with large, comfortable bungalows.

Our bungalow had 2 floors, with the bathroom and an extra bed on the first floor. The upper floor had our 2 beds (it would have been better if we had one large king bed, but they were fully booked), a small but cozy seating area, a stocked fridge, and sliding doors that led onto our balcony, where we could sit and watch the sun rise or set over the Zambezi. It was just breathtaking.

Service is friendly, helpful, and warm, from the front desk to the food/bar service. Everyone we met there was just wonderful. The food at dinner and the free breakfast was delicious, and was very reasonably priced ($20 for a 3-course dinner).

The only reason why we gave it 4 stars was the distance from town (the taxi cost to get there is very high), and because they did not have televisions and free internet/wifi in the rooms. Although natural beauty and relaxation away from civilization is encouraged, we still prefer to relax at night to television and be able to send emails to our friends and family. I hope they plan to make this part of their renovations.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room with one bed at time of booking if you do not want 2 twins for a couple...

We are thrilled you and your husband enjoyed our lodge so much and appreciate it even more from a couple as well traveled as yourselves - thank you!! We definitely hear your advice in connection with wifi internet, unfortunately at present we are only on the edge of a workable signal footprint however our local cellular company is looking into boosting their coverage to reach us, as satellite wifi is somewhat prohibitive. Your suggestion about television in the rooms is also noted. Thanks for taking the time to write such a constructive review and if ever you are back in the Falls we'd love to see you again. All the very best to you both from the Gorgeous Gorges team!!

Spent two nights before Christmas at the Gorges where we received a warm welcome from Chris and Debbie and their efficient and unobtrusive staff who all went out of their way to make our visit special. The views are spectacular and the gardens surrounding the lodges are really beautiful. Each lodge is completely private so you can make the most of the tranquil setting. We really appreciated the attention to detail. The meals were great - good home cooking with huge portions!! Although you do have to travel into Victoria Falls it is more than worth it to be in such a idyllic setting. We would not hesitate to recommend the Gorges.

Spent a night here and was taken back several years wit the the standard of the rooms and service. All staff were excellent , the location stunning and the grounds just idyllic. Food was what I would describe as good home cooking served overlooking the Batoka Gorge. Visit this lodge if you go to the Vic Falls in Zimbabwe, it's quiet , excellent value and the location has to be seen to be believed.

Gorges and Little Gorges is a mere 30 minute drive from Victoria Falls town and offers a unique Victoria Falls experience from a peaceful and idyllic base on the edge of the Batoka Gorge - a perfect choice for your Victoria Falls safari adventure! At Gorges you can relax away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria Falls town - our peaceful guest accommodation is nestled in a landscaped garden that makes walking to your room a joy, and our staff are renowned for their warm hospitality. Gorges is famous for its spectacular views, described by some as the best in southern Africa; whether you are enjoying a cup of coffee at sunrise on your private veranda or a cool refreshment by the pool at sunset, you will be constantly drawn to the stunning vistas provided by the Batoka Gorge and the rushing waters of the Zambezi River below. Little Gorges is perched on the edge of the Batoka Gorge next to main Gorges. This tented extension of Gorges overlooks the dramatic junction of the Dibu Dibu River and the Zambezi, where black eagles and lanner falcons nest in the sheer cliff faces. Construction of the luxury tents in this rugged, rocky and broken terrain necessitated careful planning and feats of engineering and is a wonderful alternative to the main Gorges chalets while still providing all the same comforts. ... more   less
