I have stayed at the Victoria Falls Hotel a number of times over the years during some good and very bad economic times. Despite dips in tourism the Victoria Falls Hotel has always maintained a very high standard. I did a full inspection of the hotel and was very impressed. They are going through further refurbishments and the hotel really does look wonderful and justifies it's rating as one of the leading hotels in the world. Built in 1905, the Victoria Falls Hotel has retained it's premier status and all developments over the years have been undertaken in excellent taste and are in keeping with the architecture of the period.

The staff are very welcoming and helpful and go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. If you want anything, just ask.

The verandah of the hotel overlooks the Victoria Falls bridge and is truly a wonderful sight. The hotel has magnificent gardens and is only a short distance from the Falls.

Whilst I was there having an evening meal on the verandah, a very heavy, typically African storm came through. Many people were eating on the patio area and had to be moved, and very quickly. The staff handled everything very smoothly and found the diners alternative placings without fuss. Whilst all this was going on, three members of staff came and spoke to me at different times to apologise for the 'disturbance'. My meal was delayed for a few minutes, but when it arrived it was superb, my steak cooked to perfection.

Visitors need not be concerned about travelling to Zimbabwe. The people are very warm and welcoming and this is well demonstrated in the tourist areas. Guests can fly in direct from Johannesburg and other cities and there are erratic flights offered by Air Zimbabwe from Harare. If you are travelling by car, then I well recommend the drive from Bulawayo or from Harare. The roads are still in reasonable condition but the distances are not overly tiring and there is some beautiful scenery and places to visit along the way such as Hwange, if you are coming from Bulawayo.

A stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel is definitely one of the places to put on your 'must do' list and I recommend including it with a safari.

A classic colonial hotel with wide open views towards the Falls and the bridge that connects Zambia and Zimbabwe above the gorge. Some rooms still undergoing renovations when I was there in May. The veranda in the main building is a delightful place to have meals, drinks or high tea. Food and service were excellent. Interesting collection of Zimbabwe soapstone sculptors available for purchase. Location is excellent as you can walk info the village as well as to the entrance to the Falls.

A beautiful colonial hotel with the charm of yesteryear but with the modern conveniences. Location was superb only minutes from the famouse Victoria Falls. Whilst having a lovely High Tea on the terrace you could see the spray and rainbows from the falls. Memorablia of that era adorns the hotel throughout which gives you many hours of pleasure and nostalgia.

Room Tip: We had the last standard room leaving it late when booking but it was still very comfortable. I can only imagine what a deluxe would be like.

Our stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel was welcoming with warm clothes and a cold drink. The building itself reflected the glories of the past. One could not but be impressed by the past history of the area. It was very convenient for the Falls and they were amazing and awe inspiring. ( Just watch out for the touts on the path up and down). The meals were excellent and the staff very helpful. There was a musical program the night we ate in the Jungle Junction which added to the enjoyment.
Our room was OK - terribly small and needing a bit of a spruce up. All the other features of the hotel made up for this deficiency.
I could thoroughly recommend this hotel as an ideal place to stay while visiting the Falls.

We were met at the entry with an elegant and warm welcome - warm wash cloth and a refreshing beverage. All staff went over and above to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Special kudos to Sharon in Guest Services. Glenda gave me a great massage. Wonderful breakfast and dinner buffets. They make an excellent vodka martini too.
