“Perfect for vewing the falls”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

This hotel is the perfect place to stay for very easy access to the Victoria Falls. In fact one can see the falls from the hotel grounds and hear its roar from your room and see the mist early morning

The decor of the hotel lives up to its name- Victorian furnishings and art work. The food is delectable and the setting of the Jungle Junction restaurant is inviting especially at nights as dancers add to the jungle atmosphere.
Be careful not to take a room on the corner bottom floor ,say room77. it has single beds. tiny bathroom and NO VIEW. We requested a change and got a room overlooking the lovely grounds and within sound of the falls. The bed was huge and comfortable with monogrammed pillow cases and great thread count sheets. The staff lowered the mosquito nets for you at nights and left chocolates or cookies for you !
i was pleasantly surprised to behold a map of my home country among other colonial islands in the hallway! The colonial history of Brittan is proudly displayed throughout the hotel.

My friend and i had side by side massages and we were both unimpressed. The ambiance of the spa was inviting though
On a sour note the porters damaged my Samsonite hard suitcase. I am still awaiting compensation ....Nevertheless a beautiful hotel with style and taste.

Wonderful Classic Hotel great views, African dance show, walk to the Falls, good food and service
High Tea available for those traditonalists or others who like that or, staff and management friendly good tours available drawback to the area (not the Holel itself) once you get of Hotel property walking to the Falls vendors can be very assertive- just ignore , but it is annoying.

Hooray, after 6 days in tented safari camps we have air conditioning and free wi-fi in the room! A perfectly located old colonial style hotel with lovely grounds and view of the bridge to Zambia. We stayed in Room 150 probably the cheapest in the hotel with a basic courtyard view on second floor. Tea makings, flat screen TV, Kleenex and wash cloths but no mini-bar. The plumbing and fixtures a bit tired but serviceable. Lavish breakfast, anything you can think of in beautiful surroundings. Easy walk to the falls ($30 pp entry plus $3 to rent a plastic raincoat). Without visa, but with passport you can walk to the Zambia Bridge for good views of the gorge. You may be guided by a security guy to shoo away the vendors. The vendors are not that much of a problem but for a couple of bucks it was nice to have the guy along. Outstanding buffet breakfast.

Walking off of the Rovos Rail (and everyone should try to ride the Rovos Rail) and down a red carpet into this lovely hotel made me feel as though I should be wearing a Victorian gown of gauze and lace. We stayed here as our last stop on a trip through South Africa, and it was a charming experience. The room was large, opening onto a courtyard with a fountain, and had a bath with a large clawfoot tub and separate shower. Mosquito netting added to the charm. There was not minibar or fridge in the room, but ice was delivered quickly when we asked. Sitting on the terrace over a light meal, watching the mist from the falls behind the bridge, transported us into a more gracious era. The staff was attentive and efficient. The rooms have air conditioning, but hallways and courtyards are open to the breezes. There was a charming series of photos of the former King and Queen of England and Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret on a visit in the 1940's. Breakfast at Jungle Junction was a lavish buffet with excellent service. Staying here was a lovely experience, combining modern comforts with the service and elegance of an earlier time.

This HAS to be the hotel to stay at when visiting the falls. The views of the falls and the iron bridge are fantastic but far enough away that you don't get wet. We had rooms 144-146 which overlooked the lawn and the falls. The rooms are a little tired but perfectly useable and what do you expect from an old lady. The hotel is currently under renovation but this didn't effect us at all.
The breakfast at the Jungle Junction is amazing which such a choice, they will even cook your eggs just how you want them. There are three places to eat, the terrace which has traditional afternoon tea from 3-5pm then a la carte menu with cocktails if you wish, the Livingstone Room allows for formal dining and the taster menu with wine was was fantastic and lastly the Jungle Junction serves a buffet dinner with african dancing.
The swimming pool was lovely and we think it must have been heated and there was also plently of clean towels.
The staff were all superb with the longest serving having worked at the Victoria Falls Hotel for 45 years!
When you walk through the gardens listen for the frogs in the pools, their calls are beautiful.

We were lodged at the Victoria Falls Hotel as part of a longer tour. It was our last stop on the tour, and the arrival (by train) and view of the mist from the Falls as you walk through the lounge out to the porch, is unforgettable. This is a gracious, older hotel, with its unique location near Victoria Falls, such that the mist is always visible. Our room was very large, with a comfortable ensuite bath. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with a small herd of warthogs to manicure the lawn. One evening there was a fantastic performance by locals, with traditional dance and costumes. The entire experience of our stay was a perfect ending to two weeks in South Africa.

For more than a century, The Victoria Falls Hotel has been the address of choice for Royal Families, statesmen, celebrities and discerning travellers as it occupies a fine location from which to explore the magical wonders of untamed Africa. From the thundering Victoria Falls at its threshold, to the big 5 that roam freely less than 5kms away, the “Grande Dame” provides an experience like no other. Less than a ten minute walk away from the Victoria Falls Rainforest, this is one hotel that can truly claim to be unique. The Victoria Falls Hotel’s grand Edwardian architecture evokes the spirit of a bygone era. The courtyard and entrance completed in 1915, with flowering shrubs, palms and stately mango trees picturesquely reflected in the water lily ponds. The chic elegance of the marble floored reception area sets the tone for the style and sophistication synonymous with The Victoria Falls Hotel. Many a guest has marveled at the magnificent views seen from The Victoria Falls Hotel and the experience begins with the sun rising beneath the mist of one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Combining old-fashioned, traditional elegance with warm and welcoming decor, the main lounge provides a perfect backdrop for relaxing with friends, whilst the Bulawayo Room offers serenity and seclusion in surroundings of exceptional comfort and luxury. There’s a well-appointed curio shop specializing in colonial memorabilia. The Palm Lounge, bright and cool, is a quiet and secluded corner in which to relax, read or write. Throughout its many corridors and alcoves, the hotel’s long and fascinating history is depicted through photographs, posters and artistic impressions, reflecting the past glories of the empire. The quaint Chapel, built in 1929, has been the venue of many weddings and The Victoria Falls Hotel remains a favourite destination for honeymooners from around the world. Echoing its glorious past, The Victoria Falls Hotel’s traditional rooms and suites are truly a 5 star experience. Style and sophistication are trademarks of the hotel’s executive suites, which are luxuriously appointed with decor being warm, inviting and rich with tradition. Deluxe guest rooms are spacious, well-appointed and furnished in traditional Edwardian style with an "out of Africa" feel. All rooms are air-conditioned with every modern amenity including digital satellite television, direct dial telephone and a personal safe. Cast-iron, roll-top bath tubs in the stables wing rooms and suites turn the bathroom into a haven of sumptuous relaxation. All three restaurants have ideal locations, making dining around the hotel a memorable experience. Lavish buffets at the casual Jungle Junction restaurant are but one of the many choices for breakfast and dinner. Stanley’s Terrace is an excellent option for light meals throughout the day and is an absolute must for the infamous High Tea served every afternoon, with spectacular views of The Victoria Falls Bridge and the Falls themselves. Later, enjoy the hotel’s legendary cocktails or a gin and tonic in Stanley’s Bar while listening to the roar of the mighty Falls. Evening dining at the open-air jungle Junction restaurant offers an unforgettable experience with a fusion of flavours of Africa. Entertainment from ethnic groups epitomises the spirit of Africa; Jungle Junction is the ideal venue for incentive groups. Enjoy dinner and dancing in the elegant, Edwardian Livingstone Room, with classic a la carte and table d’hote menus. Whilst the Livingstone Room reflects the century old hotel’s style of grandeur and opulence, the dress code has been slightly relaxed for the convenience of the guest and it is no longer essential for gentlemen to wear jacket and tie for dinner. A fine selection of wines and liqueurs are available to complement the chef’s wonderfully innovative creations. Cool off and enjoy the splendour of the glorious colonial swimming pool set amongst the beautiful landscaped gardens, overlooking the famous Victoria Falls Bridge with the Batoka Gorge below. Massage treatments are available in the airy gazebos located around the poolside or in the tranquility of the hotel’s gardens. The Pullman Suite and the Centenary Room are well-appointed with exquisite antique furnishing, adding a new dimension of sophistication to conferencing. Suitable for meetings of between 8 and 40 people, conference packages (including spouses’ programs) are available. The Victoria Falls are approximately 1,690 metres wide with an estimated 550 million litres of water per minute cascading over a 111 metre chasm. It must be highlighted that Zimbabwe has 16 out of the 19 prime viewing spots and is where you will find the "untamed" Victoria Falls Rainforest with its many winding pathways and trails. In 1855 David Livingstone, arguably the first European to see the awesome Falls, remarked "scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." The Victoria Falls have been declared a World Heritage Site and enjoy special conservation status. ... more   less
