Was at Vic Falls with my family and stayed in Elephant Hills for 3 nights and hey it was a beautiful place. It exceeded our expectations and the interiors were exceptionally designed to make you appreciate the best of Africa. The food was excellent and we all want to go back and stay longer this time

Stayed: August 2009, traveled with family

This must have been a spectacular hotel in its day, and I believe it could get back there with some strict management attention.

The location on a golf course overlooking the river and falls in the distance is superb. The staff are friendly and helpful, even if they are a bit more casual than at some of the other hotels in the area. Issues for me were lack of swimming towels, only about ten recliners at the pool and those in a sorry state, pool water not too clean, no plug in bath, safe in room not working, only one towel provided per double room (had to ask every day for a second one), showers hardly working in two of our three rooms, and having to ask for coffee/creamer every day. The Spa is nothing to write home about, and would not accept credit cards nor would they charge the room, even though they had NO bookings.

The food was OK but very basic with breakfast selection exactly the same every day, and dinner buffet mostly the same with just the meat selection changing. The pool bar has a reasonable menu that is well priced and keeps the kids going between meals.

The gardens were well maintained, withe some spectacular trees in the grounds. I don't play golf, but the course looked OK to a non golfer. There were no tennis nor squash rackets available, so we didn't try these facilities which are on site.

The hotel was full when we first arrived, and after many months of low occupancy I believe the staff had forgotten how to handle so many people! The new General Manager was due to start as we departed and I wish him/her well in returning this hotel to its former glory.

I would recommend this hotel only if you are on a limited budget, or if the new GM can get it right soon - it has huge potential.

This place is amazing. Impala and Warthogs running around on the golf course. Baboons climbing on the balconies. Great scenic views. As other travellers stated, it seemed as if there were more staff than guests, but they were all very nice and were willing to do anything they could for you. Internet available for $1/10min but very slow. Bar prices are a very reasonable $2 per beer, and the $15 dinner buffet was excellent - even though there was no one around, the food was fresh and hot. There was even a live singing group that showed up during dinner. I hope this place is able to stay in business because i'll definately stay there again if i'm in Vic Falls.

An sureal experience. 12 years ago I stayed at this large hotel and it was very busy. Now there were no more than 30 guests. The impact of the crazy politics. The hotel is very well kept, everything clean and tidy, the golf course great.... but more staff (all very friendly and good) then quests. A real sad sight but lets hope for the future. On a negative side is that there is no free transfer to the town or the other sister hotel so it will cost your US$10 using City Cabs or US$20 using the hotel staff mates who rip you off.

Would I stay there again, definately, but only once there are more quests.

Dear Flashsa

Thank you for reviewing your stay with us. We are delighted to know that you enjoyed your stay with us. However we receive with regret your comment regarding free transport to town and the number of guests in the hotel. Please accept my apology for the inconvenience caused during your stay with us.I am however pleased to announce to you that the number of guests has improved since then and we now have a complimentary shuttle bus that takes our guests to town daily every hour on the hour from 9am to 5pm.

Due to Zimbabwe's economic crisis this hotel was practically empty when we arrived (most people head to the Zambian side of Vic Falls) but this hotel was absolutely fantastic. It was the last stay on our tour of southern Africa.

The rooms were gorgeous and each of them sport a balcony with a wonderful view of the surrounding forests (and a warning to keep it locked incase the baboons come around!). The staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were amazing. It's located a ways outside of Vic Falls but has a free pick-up and drop-off service that runs into town every hour.

Just be sure to bring lots of American cash. When we arrived the ATM's were down and Credit Cards couldn't be used. Thankfully we had a cache of American money stored for emergencies. The money situation may have changed since we were there, however.
