My husband and I stayed at the Wild Trekker Lodge in Victoria Falls in September. We enjoyed the stay in the lodge immensely because of the quiet, non-touristy nature of the place, the opportunity to interact with Zimbabweans at the lodge and over the breakfast table. The food was well done and the kitchen very clean and the chef accommodating. Our room was large (with a king bed) although other rooms vary in size and number of beds, depending upon what you want. The water was hot and the rooms were clean. Other guests included local professionals who were on assignment in Victoria Falls. It was great to be able to interact with them. The owner of Wild Trekker is a Zimbabwean who has his Ph.D. in elephant ecology from U. Witwaterstrand and masters from the U.S. He knows the area well-in fact used to be responsible for the Vic Falls National Park, and can help connect you with local tour guides and tell you a lot about the area and conservation efforts. We were very happy with the experiences we had, and the cost was reasonable- much more so than the large tourist hotels that predominate in Vic. Falls. It is located in a residential part of the community, so we used taxis to get back and forth, but it wasn't a problem and the staff helped if needed.
