This place is astounding and hard to top anywhere in the world. As our first stop in Africa after a long journey from Australia we wanted seclusion and peace in stunning luxurious surrounds. That's just what we got. Our nervousness at visiting Zimbabwe was ill founded. The staff and locals in town all happy and friendly and we never felt unsafe. Vic Falls was almost empty due to low tourist numbers making it a special treat. Not something you can claim of many of the other 7 wonders. Back at camp the staff led by manager Jonathon were perfect although when serving the delicious meals each night we had to remind them we were vegetarians again. That's ok, we get that it's an odd concept here!!! Otherwise we can't fault the camp and would return again, if for nothing more than sleeping to the roar if the Zambezi and lazing on the deck watching the mist from the falls across the autumnal dry veldt of the national park. Ill never forget this place.

We had a warm welcome by Jonathan and Bernie on arrival which set the scene for the whole stay. All members of staff were very polite, helpful and nothing was to much trouble. The tents are fabulous and even used the plunge pool. Views of the spray from the Falls and the distant gorges. The meals/food are all delicious and imaginatively presented. Amazing viewing of the camp cheetah who came to say hello one morning. Thank you for a special stay and we will spread the word.

My wife and I have always wanted to see the Victorial Falls and when our 20th wedding anniversary came along we wanted somewhere special to go. Elephant Camp was the perfect place to celebrate this special occasion. Exceptionally friendly and courteous staff, wonderful food, exquisite and luxurious tented rooms, privacy, close to the falls and cheetah and elephant encounters too. Can we come back next year??

With only one night to spare, Jonathan and Bernie and the team went out of their way to make this special, from laundry to spectacular vegetarian meals and a morning hike with Sylvester the cheetah. Some places are just extraordinary and unmatched, and this was one such place. Loved my tent, tea, cookies, and just relaxing, and heading to town was super-easy. Thank you again Elephant Camp! The elephant interaction in the afternoon is also well-worth it. Wi-fi is strong in the lobby and peacefully not in the rooms :)

This is the ultimate in African Safari accommodations.

My wife and I were visiting Africa and looking to enjoy a nice, but authentic, African experience. The Elephant Camp exceeded our expectations.

We were greeted at the Victoria Falls Airport by a neatly uniformed, polite and friendly member of the Wild Horizons staff. He helped us with our 5 suitcases (we were on a three week tour) and took us to the camp, about 15 minutes from the airport. We were delayed briefly by a large number (200 or more) of baboons who overtook the road! The camp is located in a National Wildlife Sanctuary.

Upon our arrival at The Elephant Camp, my wife and I were greeted by the management team who gave us a most warm and gracious welcome. Our luggage was quickly whisked away by staff while we were taken into the main tent for a complimentary cold beverage and introductory tour.

The main tent is home to all the guest common areas. As we entered to the left there were two beautifully-furnished living rooms with leather couches, tables, lamps, books and oriental carpets. Everything was tastefully, yet colorfully decorated in African decor. Next was the bar which was well-stocked with complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

Next was the indoor dining room which is only used during poor weather. (Rarely.) It was a beautiful room though rarely used. All three of these rooms opened to an expansive deck that featured the outdoor dining areas which are covered with shade trees and a canopy. To the far left side of the deck the spray from Victoria Falls rises hundreds of feet into the air forming what the locals refer to as "the mist that thunders".

After our tour, we were escorted to our tent. We were in tent 2 of 12. The tent was built on a concrete foundation about a foot above the ground surface. The tent was built over a frame of three tent poles, each forming a separate room.

Upon entering the tent, there was a foyer which featured a large bureau for hanging clothes and also a combination safe. Beside the bureau were two large, wooden trunks for storing our clothes. The floor of the tent was polished and stained concrete (nicely done) with many woven area rugs to make it more warm and comfortable.

To the right of the foyer was the living room. This room featured a large sofa-bed, a large overstuffed upholstered chair, and a console that featured a complimentary mini-bar, well-stocked with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and water. On top of the console was a coffee and tea maker with a large selection of coffees and teas.

The center section of the tent featured our bedroom complete with a king-size bed with a canopy and a net drape that encircled the bed. On either side of the bed was a night stand with more storage space and lamps. At the foot of the bed was a full-length dressing mirror on one side and a small writing desk and chair on the other.

The third section of the tent was closed off from the other two with sliding doors. This was our bathroom. Spacious and modern, it featured a large soaking tub with hand-held shower, a separate glass-enclosed shower with a "rain forest" shower head, toilet and sink with vanity. The bath amenities were of high quality and ample quantity. The towels were lush and thick, and there were plenty of them as well as towel racks to hang them on if you so desire. There was also a clothes hamper for the complimentary daily laundry service. Clothing picked up at the nightly turn-down service was returned the next morning ready to wear.

All three of these rooms opened (via sliding doors) to an expansive wooden deck that overlooked the stunning Victoria Falls. There was a small, private swimming pool on each deck and a private outdoor shower (also with a rain forest shower head). Each tent was secluded and private so guests could enjoy sunning and swimming sans clothing. (be careful not to sunburn those areas not used to seeing the sun!) There were two lounge chairs and a table with two chairs so we could enjoy both the sunrises and sunsets from the right and left sides of our deck.

Meals were always a pleasure as the well-trained chef provided a delicious breakfast buffet and eggs (or anything else you could think of) made to order. Lunch and dinner were served with a verbal menu presented personally buy the chef, with several choices for the main course. All beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic were complementary and meals were included in the package rate. After dinner each evening the guests are escorted to their tents by a guide as there are wild animals, (buffalo, giraffe, elephants, baboons, etc.) running wild throughout the national park where the camp is located.

A wonderful feature of The Elephant Camp is the 18 elephants that were orphaned and raised by the capable staff of the camp. Guests are allowed to take an hour-long ride on the elephants which are gentle and friendly. At the end of your ride, if you are fortunate, you will get to enjoy the "Cheetah Experience" with Sylvester, an orphaned cheetah who they raised to full adulthood and is very people-friendly.

Tours of Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, are offered frequently and are only a few minutes ride from the camp.

There were ample opportunities to meet and talk with other guests but guests could certainly find a way to remain completely secluded if they so desired. The management team served as our concierge making sure that we saw the sights we wanted to see while there. We highly recommend the Chobe River cruise and land tour. We saw all the "big five" except the cats.

This was a most wonderful experience that we shall never forget. We hope to return someday for a week, or even a month. On a scale of one-to-ten this is an eleven.

Room Tip: All the tents are alike but if you want maximum privacy, request #1 or #12.

I cannot praise the wonderful staff at Elephant Camp enough for the wonderful care bestowed on us on our recent three day stay at Elephant Camp. We were very jet lagged and tired the day we arrived and certainly didn't expect the welcome by Jonathan and staff..all lined up with big smiles and cool drinks! This care to detail continued throughout our whole stay..the.food was delicious..the interaction with Sylvester was the highlight of all my travel experiences and I still get that warm, fuzzy feeling every time I think about how privileged I was to have had that experience. Our lodge was beautifully decorated and comfortable with a view of the mist rising from the amazing Victoria Falls in the distance. I will probably never be able to return, but we were treated like special friends and would love to return..and stay longer!
