“The Place to Stay in Vic Falls”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

If you are looking for a place to stay in Victoria Falls then look no further. The Elephant Camp is a little out of the main town, but that adds to its charm. We went to several luxury camps during our time in Africa and the Elephant Camp's tents rank up there with some of the nicest. The staff (shout out to Kim and Moses) was super friendly. Even the person who opened and closed the gate had a genuine smile on his face. The food was also excellent and varied. If you are looking for activities I would suggest going to Devil's Pool from the Zambia side through the Livingstone Hotel. Also, make sure you go to the actual Elephant Camp that the hotel runs (there's a decent chance you will not see any elephants from your tent) and say hi to Sylvester, the cheetah.

The huge hybrid tent/bungalows at Elephant Camp are gorgeous. Beautifully furnished living area and mosquito netted king-size bed face double glass-sliding doors overlooking your private deck and plunge pool and a panoramic view of the New Horizons Wildlife Park and the mist rising from Victoria Falls. The bath features a tub so large that it looks like it would take the falls to fill it. Indoor and outdoor showers and the vanity are stocked with luxurious amenities.
Lunch is served on the shaded deck at individual tables with a view of the waterhole, where elephants frequently drink. Unless otherwise requested, dinner is served at the long dining table in the lounge. Four rotating chefs prepare diverse Pan African cuisine specialties, which taste fabulous and are beautifully presented. Guests get acquainted, share the day's adventures and report on the various activities available in Vic Falls town, from bunge jumping and white water rafting to tours of the falls.
Manager Jonathan Elway, formerly of Matitse Lodge, treats every guest like royalty. He makes reservations for any activity on the fly, gives advise on local attractions and pampers everyone until you are seriously hoping he will adopt you. My husband became ill from the malaria medicine during our five- night stay. Jonathan called in the paramedics (at the camp's expense) and he and the staff watched over him like mother hens, so I wouldn't have to miss activities scheduled with friends.
Other guests in the nine tents while we were there included honeymoon couples from Italy,
Spain and Hong Kong, ranchers from New Zealand and a family from Atlanta. Elephant Camp is one of our best experiences in Africa and we have been many times.
There is often a special surprise at breakfast. His name is Sylvester and you don't want to miss him.

Room Tip: Every tent has a wonderful view. The farther from the lodge, the more private, but they require a lo...

The staff is extremely nice and attentive. They will see to your every request and coordinate special trips, or whatever you want to do to make your trip special. The room is nicer than we expected and is comfortable and roomy but not high-end luxurious and has no TV, internet connection or phone. Seeing sunrise and sunset in our room is phenomenal. Food is included in the package and is quite good. Dinner is served on a big dinning table where every guest sits down and eats together at the same time. I did find many ants crawling inside the electric water kettle upon check-in, but this is the wilderness.

You have to experience it to believe it! So comfortable. We also took a walk to the gauge which is one of the world's wonders. The food was exquisite and Jonathan is a wonderful host with a great, efficient and friendly staff backing him up. Meeting Sylvester the 'cat' was a wonderful treat and the "elephants" - what wonderful creatures who all seemed very content and well cared for - what an experience!!

Room Tip: We liked the end room on the right
