Although it's clear not much investment has been made in the hotel for a while, it still felt very homely and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The rooms were very good and the restaurant (La Fontaine) very good indeed. This is truly a nice, comfortable, friendly hotel and I would recommend it without hesitation

Having read some of the recent reviews on this hotel and having not visited Harare for 10 years I was half expecting the Meikkles to be rather theadbare, worn and tired. Not so at all. This is a great hotel in pretty much tip top condition. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the rooms were comfortable, all the resurants and bars were open as were the other facilites - swimming pool, business centre etc. We really enjoyed our (albeit short) stay here and would come back any time. My only complaint was that the air conditioning in the room wasn't up to the job but that was easily remedied by leaving the window open.

The Meikles Hotel was excellent. There is no aspect of the hotel that did not please me, and the staff really made me feel at home. I loved the ambience of the dining room, and the main bar was a great place for pre-dinner drinks. I've stayed at many top class hotels worldwide, and few come close to Meikles.

This hotel is considered one of the finest hotels in the world apparently. I cant work out why though?
Yes, it is clean, and the service levels are generally pretty good, but it is seriously dated.
The decor is from the 1960's as is the furniture and bedspreads.
But there are some modern items around - like the flat screen TV's - but further than that - nothing!
There is also no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, and sometimes the plug points dont work, or the aircons dont do a good job, or the beds have had Godzilla sleeping on them, and his body shape is permanently impressioned onto the mattress.
I have never had a fear of a lift falling down its shaft, passangers and all (except in Nigeria), but this is something I think about every time I get into a lift on the north tower at Miekles - the thing rattles, wobbles, and grinds its way up or down, and I am all to relieved to get out of it!
The resturant has a good, but limited menu - so after 3 or 4 stays, u will get bored of it. But the quality is good.
Make no mistake, its a nice hotel, awsome homemade pies, chicken mayo sammies, and high tea for your guests.
The hotel is conveniently situated for me, with most my meetings in walking distance from the property - and Yes - it is safe to walk on the streets of Harare - laptop and all!
I pay a discounted corporate rate when staying here - but is it worth it? Comapred other countries I travel, no its not. I can get better accomodation at a cheaper rate else where.
But is there anywhere better in Harare?

Fantastic stay. Great staff. Big, old rooms. The bedding is looking a bit shabby and needs to be changed.
