Against the backdrop of international media coverage, surprised in general that Harare seems to be in very good shape, and this hotel typified that. Service was friendly and efficient. The rooms were comfortable and modern. The range of amenities was also good. Above all, free wi-fi internet that worked and at reasonable speeds was the reason to make this my future home when travelling in Harare!

Overlooking Central Park a greenbelt of superlative proportions to the inner curve side of this monolith, this Crowne Plaza Hotel simply shouts out to be visited. Sure the lunch time & late afternoon church gatherers a few hundred meters from my eleventh floor window certainly caused effect & reaction ( I shut my window ) but my, what a superbly located hotel for those of you looking to be dead centre of this Sunshine City within Harare, Zimbabwe.

Constructed in the late 1980's it does reflect a degree of neglect & much needed refurbishing but what it lacks in this arena it makes up for in human resources ! Prompt check in staff, a front desk just breaming with creative & well versed souls very adept at sourcing a suitable vehicle or restaurant for dinner.

I stayed here for three nights as the guest of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority ( their offices are a short 42 meter walk from the Plaza front door ) in October and found an incredible waitron staff within their breakfast restaurant ! Effective, most welcoming and always keen to learn, the staff at an early 'morn would be ready to do justice to their calling....

Sure, not the five star standard of London, New York or Cape Town but.... they try hard to reflect their intrinsic hospitality, care & concern so created within the travel & tourism industry within this incredible country.

Room Tip: Go as high as you can, the views north of this green and beautiful city are magnificent.

I stayed with a college at this hotel in November. My room was very spacious but this spaciousness was somewhat negated by the 2 double beds in the room. The room was clean with tea bags, coffee, soaps, shampoos, shower gel ,a kettle, a bar fridge, a ironing Board and a trouser press ( first time I have seen one of these). I asked for a iron which was delivered to me promptly. The towels in the bathroom need to be replaced. The buffet dinner was average. I went in specifically for the oxtail which was finished and not replaced. The gym was being renovated but I was given access to another gym 10 minutes away from the hotel with a complimentary taxi ride. The wi fi did not work, which was irritating but he Manager assured me they were working on the problem. Breakfast was very good except for the yogurts which are of poor quality. The service was very good. I was also impressed by the unlimited espressos that you were allowed at breakfast. The wake up call facility is really desirable. The gardens visible from the rooms give the hotel a country feel.I would have given this hotel a 4 had it not been for the wi fi which was not working.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the Harare Gardens

The crowne plaza must have been a pearl 15 years ago. Since then, no more investments. Really everything is old and used, no renovations have been made. Spacious rooms and bath rooms. They give you club floor, but no bar there.... . Hotel bar was closed at 10pm... . They messed up my laundry, I was promised to get it at 6pm, had to take a flight, it cam then at 7.40pm after a long fight. I was charged for a breakfast that I did not take, the cahrge was removed after I told them the 2nd time I did not have breakfast. All in all, not recommendable

Given the fairly limited choices a traveller has for hotels in this category (either business or tourist) this hotel makes the grade. It is certainly better than one or two of the other "beep" hotels I have stayed at in Harare. The staff are all very attentive and the place is neat and tidy.

Room Tip: All the rooms have the same view so I guess the difference will be in the type of room you will be paying for.
