I chose Woodlands based on the previous reviews of this lodge. It is a beautiful place, very comfortable, and David, the owner, could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for him, including running me down to the village in has car when it was raining.
I stayed there for 4 nights on a business trip and my first visit to Harare. It is a few miles out of the centre but it doesn't take more than 20-30 minutes even to get to the far side of the city. Borrowdale Village, with a good selection of shops and restaurants, is only 10 minutes walk and seems safe to walk in the early evening after dark, so time to eat a meal at 7 and still walk back if you don't want to take a taxi.
The rooms are very spacious and well finished. There is covered patio outside to sip a beer and watch the rain pour down - as it did a lot in my visit in February. The only problem was that I had the furthest room from the main building and I couldn't get a wifi connection. So to access the internet, I had to sit in the comfortable bar/restaurant with an alway open honesty bar or round the swimming pool in the beautiful and large gardens - hardly an inconvenience!
Dinner is available Monday-Thursday evenings. I ate there the first night - a set meal which was excellent. I ate in the village a couple of other evenings - at Millars Cafe and 360, both very good.
Although Woodlands is slightly more expensive than some of the other lodges, it is definitely worth the extra. I had originally thought that Zimbabwe would be a cheap price to visit, but since they started to use the US$, prices have stabilised at around UK prices for restaurants, eetc.
