Warm enough welcome by staff. Strange absence of waiters (the bar man and receptionist served us from start to finish). The two of us were the only diners. Orders taken promptly and very nice presentation of food. Starters were ambitious (Salmon tartare and baked brie) but very tasty. Mains were traditionally Southern African in choice and presentation (we chose fillet of beef in brandy sauce and a spicy half chicken) but generously portioned and cooked as ordered. Desert (crepes) were tasty but a little amature compared the starters and mains.Table dressings were missing and condiments were presented in retail packing without serving spoons.I obeserved a senior manager smoking outside the restruant (lawn side where the main view extends). This is offputting. Rather a lot of random people wandering in and out, ignoring us, while we ate and an unbeliveable amount of noise emanating from within the kitchen. Reasonable value. The waiters checked in as we checked out. No water in the bathrooms due to maintenance. Lets hope the kitchen had a hand wash back up. Great setting, tasty food let down by distinct lack of front of house accountability.Standards have dropped. Is it for sale maybe ?.
