“I call this our "church" as we go once a week, feel divine afterwards and we never miss the date!”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

We have lived in Harare for nearly 3 years now. If not for the Shopcafé our life would be mediocre, boring and my vegetarian spouse would be in a total depression. The food is "amazing" and I agree with "skydivemauritius" that this is probably the best food in the world! On weekdays the buffet keeps on providing the delicious, fresh salads plus warm vegetarian dishes like potatoes with cheese in the oven, chargrilled aubergine, mouth watering sweet potatoe wedges with a kind of subtle chille sauce. If you want a nice steak, chicken or fish, you can order on the side and pay on 3 USD for the additional stuff plus the price of vegetarian buffet. If I remember correct it is 12 USD and 15 USD for cold and warm buffet. On Saturdays some of my favourites are the chicken snitzel, the piri piri chicken or the lemon herb chicken which comes with a fantastic salad and chunky potatoes (oven baked) or chips of your choice. Kerry Wallace the celebrity cook comes up with original ideas each week together with his son Leroy Wallace and Chef Michelle Small. I like the amazing and simple sauces that Michelle comes up with to spread over the salads like "pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds which are toasted together with a bit of soya sauce and some incredible spices". I have a friend who hates salads and she ate all of it here. And my meat loving inlaws described the steak as the best and softest meat they have tasted in Zimbabwe. Our children love the oven baked tomatoes in the pasta. Shop café is very child friendly and lets kids make a mess at the table, give them all kinds of treats for free (which are fortunately healthy) and make you feel like every day is christmas. Next to the shopcafé there is a sandy area where your kids can play "sandpit" Doon Estate style...Dont leave Harare without eating here, bookings essential!

“Alway a favorite”

We lived in Harare for 3 years and loved the Shop Cafe for its fresh fair. We returned in April this year and were not disappointed! Still lovely fresh baked goods, wonderful friendly service! I recommend the breakfast muffins and the grilled cheese sandwich ( not the normal type!). Also the lemon juice is perfection

“Location, location, location”
Reviewed May 19, 2011

I am very fortunate to live and work close to Doon Estate, and the Shop Cafe is our default restaurant for lunch, whether personal or business, with at least 3 visits there a month.

Breakfast is always relaxed, and the vegetarian buffet lunches are superb. This, all coupled with a wonderful setting amongst trees, the excellent staff often chasing away monkeys, and the opportunity to browse through a wide variety of hand-made or eclectic merchandise really makes this a wonderful venue for a meal. (The coffee is fantastic as well!!)
