Owner description: Spectacular Roman mosaics are the high point of this museum.

This museum is really a trip. If you think about it, most museums you walk into, you go and look at statues, you look at paintings, etc. This museum you walk into a room and you are blown away by the room as a whole. Two-story mosaics, mosaics spanning two different rooms, ceilings that have been moved from old palaces into the building make for a unique experience as you move through what is quite simply incredible space. Among the best things to do in Tunis.

Reached this Museum from Tunis centre by yellow taxi for about 7 Tunisian Dinars (1 TD = approx 40p). It took about 30 mins in the heavy lunch time traffic.

This is a large, fascinating museum with huge ancient mosaics, artefacts, beautiful tiling and ceilings. There are many sections and you need hours to cover them all. We missed the cisterns that our friends later found. The 10 TD entrance fee is well worth it and there is a 1TD photographic fee. Unlike UK museums there is no shop or cafe. A good book covering the Museum would be well worth while.

Our guide was an archaeology professor and he took us through the highlights of the museum as we were only in Tunis for 1 day. The collection of mosaics is impressive but eventually it gets somewhat repetitious. There were also some earlier works such as statues of Numidian gods. I would recommend this museum.

this is the place for you. I have been to many museums around the world but I have never seen so many mosaics, so well preserved. Part of the museum is in the old palace of the Bey and that has the most beautiful tile work and ceilings, reminiscent of the Alhambra in Granada.

This museum has beautiful ancient mosiacs - very well preserved and presented. I would recommend a trip to this old palace which houses artifacts pre-roman and arabic. Very little of the actual city of Carthage survived the looting and stealing of many other countries. It has been built over and basically does not exist so it's great to see that some of it is preserved.
