“stunning museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

The Bardo Museum has recently re-opened with a new extension for the Roman mosaics. These mosaics come from a number of sites across Tunisia and are of the highest quality, surpassing any mosaic I have seen in Europe, including Pompeii and Herculaneum. If you have any interest in Roman life I cannot recommend this highly enough.

When we visited in Sept 2012, large parts of the original museum/royal palace were still being refurbished, but we were able to visit them with one of the local guides who expect a reasonable tip. I would recommend this as worth it.

Older guides recommend visiting in the morning, and although the extension has air conditioning it was getting warmer as we left in the early afternoon, so in summer it is probably still worthwhile trying to visit in the morning.

“Mosaic central”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

The number one destination for anyone interested in mosaics and there's plenty more to see on top.

Really clean, tidy, modern, spacious museum with plenty to absorb.

They sometimes charge 1 dinar (40 p) to take pictures in the museum but this rule was not imposed while we were visiting.

We did have to where overshoes whilst we were there in order to protect the mosaics under foot.

Visited Bardo Museum as part of Thomas Cook day package (Aug 2012). One of the best museums i have been in & found it very interesting. The museum is a must visit if in Tunisia, Air conditioned and very big this is a great building that is well lit. The collection of Roman mosaics is simply amazing!!! Our guide was very informative. Really enjoyed it.

I was there in 1996 and went back September 2012 to the newly reopened (double the size ) museum. A fantastic collection of roman mosaics at an unbeatable price (2 euros-3 $).Allow 2 hours
