El Walima is owned by the grand daughter of Tunisia's last Bey (the Ottoman representative in Tunis...sometimes also referred to mistakenly as the king). The graciousness of the owner, Saloua, along with her husband and well trained staff makes El Walima a well worthwhile place to visit. With the exception of the month of Ramadan, El Walima is only open at lunch. (If you are in Tunis during Ramadan, this is a MUST visit for dinner...but heavily booked in advance!). The atmosphere is one of feeling you are in the gracious home of the Bey. Old world interiors, table settings are perfect, the service is attentive, friendly and clearly well trained and the visit is one of restaurant theater with great food. Even the bathroom is a visual treat! A great value and unlike any restaurant in Tunisia!
