“The Bab El Bhar (Bab Har)”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

All of the tourists to Tunisia pass through the Bab El Bhar. For less than one dollar, you can sit in the shade and watch the great parade of people. When you are relaxed enough, you can wade through the streets of the old Medina. Go in the mornings or on Thursday. Friday is OK, but don't go on Saturday or Sunday if you want to enjoy the Medina. The cafes right at the Bab El Bhar are great places.

“Very crowded and dirty”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

Beware of the crowd and it is very dirty. if you are willing to walk without respecting your private space, that is ok.
The fountain at the gate of bab bhar is clogged and rusted and not working. The gate it self has so many graffitis that you do not enjoy it.

It's a great place to visit, and to mix with Tunisians daily life. Various markets offer what ever a person would need! To visit!

“Unique”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

This ex-entrance to the Medina, also known as Porte de France, is found at the end of Ave. Habib Bourghiba and Rue de France. It's name means The Door of the Sea, because, before Tunis centre was rebuilt by the French, the sea used to arrive up to Bab el Bhar. It is the main door to the entrance to the Medina. Very busy all day long.
