“sweet, inspirational Tunisian family, gorgeous room, perfect location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

The family who run this Bed and Breakfast is extremely charming:) My husband and I were enchanted with our room and the location of the Bed and Breakfast (middle of the historic medina) was perfect. But, the best part about staying here- was the generosity of the family, their willingness to share their experiences and welcome you into their family. We were inspired by the beautiful life they have created for themselves. This was not just a perfect place to stay for us... it was one of the sweetest interactions with Tunisian people that we experienced on our trip. We hope to return.

Room Tip: Both Rooms are gorgeous.

We stayed at La Chambre Bleue for 4 nights. The owners make you feel very welcome and treat you like visiting friends, joining you at breakfast to give you tips on what to do, discussing life in Tunisia, the culture, the politics, etc. The breakfast, similarly, is home cooked from fresh, good quality ingredients, different every day, and delicious.

The room is vast and beautiful. The one thing some people might mind is that the bed is in an alcove and accessible from one side only. We usually prefer the bed to be open on both sides, but since in this case it was to be in keeping with the traditional decor (rather than to save space in too small a room) we didn't mind the novelty.

One evening my boyfriend got sick and we decided to stay in. It was too late to get any food to bring in but Sondos prepared a tray for us from things out of their own kitchen - lovely home cooked stuff. Since without that we would have had to go without dinner, we were really touched by her concern and generosity.

The house is very conveniently located, right next to the souks and a short walk from the new town so you can easily get to wherever you want to be. The wifi goes in and out in the room - very spotty - but it works well just outside the room (there is a small area just outside the room which serves as their office) so if you really need connection you can get it at a very small inconvenience.

Overall, we found the place great value for money and would recommend to anyone traveling to Tunis.

This was a fantastic place to stay after a week's desert trek in the south of Tunisia. We very much appreciated the luxury of our huge room and bathroom and marvelled at the very sympathetic restoration of the property in the heart of the Medina. We felt privileged to stay there. Breakfasts were a treat, with every day, something slightly different on the menu - the sweet couscous was delicious on our final morning. We shared breakfast each morning with Marouane who gave us good tips for what to do in the day and we enjoyed learning more about the country. Restoration of the downstairs rooms is ongoing and will make this former palace an even better place to stay.

Room Tip: There's only one and it's brilliant!

The latest trend to select a specific room at a hotel goes one further here as there is just one very special room available. So when our reservation was confirmed for the specific nights that we wanted we were most relieved. Our late arrival was very welcoming and we enjoyed a taste of the friendliness of our hosts. Our very spacious bedroom called out for photographs and the adjoining bathroom was perfect. Lots of towels, gels, soap and shampoo (quality stuff too). Towels changed daily. Breakfast was excellent and, including fresh juice and fruits, was a little different each morning. Although La Chambre Bleu is also a private home we never felt uncomfortable and there were no signs to do not touch or do not enter. It is an old building being sympathetically restored bit by bit. It is well situated for the medina and lots of nearby places of interest. The hosts were helpful and interested in our plans to travel around some of Tunisia. They fully deserve to be complimented on their endeavours.

We have no doubts about returning.

Room Tip: Book well in advance.

I can only echo all the enthusiastic reviews of this special B&B. Sondos and Marouane have an absolutely gorgeous home and we felt privileged to be able to share a part of it for a few days. It was a unique experience to wander every day in the Medina - we had a delicious taste of what it must be like to live in those narrow streets where incredible homes lie behind mysterious doorways. We loved every second and hope some day to return. I agree with those who said a detailed map of the Medina is a necessity if you want to find your way efficiently, but then again, getting lost is part of the fun!

My mother, sister and I stayed in La Chambre Bleu for two nights, during a March 2012 trip to Tunis. We felt like we had fallen through the worm hole into the movie Casablanca. The Medina is so atmospheric. The room is beautiful, the people warm, interesting and helpful. It really made our trip to Tunis, as we left we passed all the big hotels on the way the train station and were so happy with our choice. For a true Tunis experience, don't miss La Chambre Bleu.

Fantastic. Lovely people. So welcoming.Great breakfast. Fabulous room.Everything is perfect right down to the bathroom What more to say? Nothing except that i shouldn't say too much otherwise the room will already be reserved when we return. The best kept secret in Tunis. The Medina is a joy to visit and discover especially when you are staying right in the heart of it and in addition guided by the excellent advice of both Sondos and Marouan.
