“Better option in Tunis”
Reviewed October 16, 2011

After staying at the Hotel Majestic in Centre-Ville for 12 days, I was seeking a better option.

I booked this room for myself and a work colleague and am glad I paid a reduced price. While nice, the hotel is not worth the full price. The rooms are on the small side but nicely appointed. The TV offered BBC World - a nice option not available in other Tunis hotels.

I used the room service twice - the menu is limited but the prices are very reasonable and the food is good. The breakfast buffer is okay - the hot options looked truly terrifying so I stuck to the pastries and juice.

The housekeeper on my floor was a darling but quite possibly the slowest cleaner in the world - she got to my room around 3 pm each day.

I especially like this hotel because it is one of the quietest I've ever stayed in! I'm a light sleeper and I had fantastic sleeps every evening! Very comfortable bed.

The internet connection was excellent - strong even in the rooms. I've traveled quite a bit and have ended up sitting in lobbies just to be able to check my email. No problem with that at the Hotel Acropole.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel as long as you look for a deal online and are aware that the area is dull but much safer than Tunis center. Because Berges du Lac is a Saudi development it's a dry area! I miss my evening glass of wine but it's nice to be in area where I'm not going to get robbed or stared at (see Hotel Majestic).

Hotel Acropole is one of those pleasant, clean but utterly forgettable hotels more often found in southern Europe than anywhere else. The staff are fine, the rooms are comfortable, and the breakfast (especially the eggs) surprisingly good. Like every other hotel in Tunis, it seems, it is substantially overpriced. It is also in the terribly boring Lac district with a construction site out the front door.

Hotel clean and tidy staff keen and Attentive,
Breakfast really good choice but menu in evening very limited.
There is nothing to do here in general not just the Hotel, everywhere is empty so bring a good book. it looks like there are a few bars local (for men see other reviews) i have not ventured out as I am here by myself and not sure how safe it is.
.

Room Tip: bring a good book

gym room has exactly 3 items, a small running machine, a stationary bicycle and a TV, (and a carpet) not what i understand as a gym room
breakfast is very much improvable.

Hi all, I was there on July 2010.
Rooms are clean and very good point: internet is free with a very good rate !
Another good point: place is totally safe (many embassies all around) and you can run at the evening near the lake.
Bad point: no one at the swimming pool which isn't correct. No possibility to get towels. There are quite no clients at this hotel so, it gains cash by organizing weddings and conferences. Therefore, if you want to relax on saturday afternoon at the swimming pool with a book: forget it ! There was 100 journalists because of the annual soccer league conference ! Shouting around me !
Forget also the restaurant and go outside, there are some ''cafés'' near the lake.

Don't let the 4 star rating fool you. Tunisia Palace is an excellent example of what a 4 start hotel should be like. Acropole is at the bottom of the pile. The hotel is dated and needs to be refurbished. It is also quite expensive - 126 Euros with breakfast.

Internet is through Wifi and free. Breakfast was not the best variety. Location was close by to my workplace which was a plus point. It is about 5-10 minutes from Tunis though.

If you are like me and have a rough idea of what a 4 star hotel should look like, you are going to be sorely dissapointed. But having said that, the rooms were clean enough albeit a bit musty. However, room service was lacking and there was very little choice. Fortunately there are excellent restaurants around the corner. There is a fantastic Lebanese sandwich shop 2 minutes next to the hotel. If you like Indian, you are going to like this neighbourhood as there is an Indian restaurant close at hand.

The highlight of the hotel will be the view as it overlooks the lake.

All in all, its a decent hotel but the 4 star ranking is deceptive and should be taken with a handful of salt.
