I revues few restaurants this 8-day tour trough Tunisia since many of the restaurants were roadside, without history, or very bad.
The ratings are not in absolute value compared to restaurants in Europe for example, where I am more demanding, or even in Morocco, so close, where there are fabulous restaurants, but in relative value, to help those who want to go to Tunisia to find at least some nice places to eat.
I note that we didn´t manage to dine at any of the restaurants recommend in Tunis because we were there twice at Sunday and they were closed.
This was the second restaurant where we had dinner in Tozeur. The space although little, is nice, but the food, appealing to traditional, consisted of small dishes and some of poor quality. The red wine, served in a container ( not bottled), is unspeakable.
The service, with only one employee (the customers were not too many) was poor.

We went here based on 3 things: it was full each time we walked past, on the recommendation in Lonely Planet, and also as it is owned by the manager of the hotel we stayed in (Residence El Arich). The service was impeccable (the hotel called ahead and notified the restaurant that we were on our way - and also informed them that I'm vegetarian). The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with lovely solid timber furniture and romantically candle-lit.

The mixed plate, baguette & harissa, and salads were fresh and delicious, and promptly served. The briq was crunchy and fresh, with the egg soft-boiled to perfection inside. The couscous (I had vegetarian, my boyfriend had it with camel skewers), was probably the best couscous I had in Tunisia - perfectly spiced and seasoned, with the vegetables absolutely melt-in-the-mouth and deliciously flavourful.

Absolutely no complaints. We left completely satiated, and all for less that the price of a take-away salad bar sandwich back home!
