I have to say this was an amazing way to end our Tanzanian safari vacation. Jonny, our balloon pilot was excellent and very skilled. Our take off and landing was very gentle, he kept us low enough to see the animals and lengthen the time of our ride (the higher you go the faster you go), he was very informative, personable, professional, safety oriented and an all around good guy.
When we started we were not sure if the balloon ride was going to happen because there was gusty wind and rain cells all around. Thankfully we were able to take off. We were lucky to see lions, a herd of cape buffalo, giraffes, zebras, pumbas, elephants and many birds. This was luck and I must say seeing animals is not a guarantee. We would have been happy even without this luck because the viewpoint and vistas are startlingly beautiful. Being in a balloom has moments of quiet and then a roar of flame, it is romantic and exciting at the same time, we loved this.
It is not just the balloon ride but the little details that make this special. When you land you have a toast of champagne and then you go to the breakfast site. The Serengeti picnic breakfast is very posh! The team here really makes you feel special. You are greeted by genial staff who smile and introduce themselves, you wash your hands over a huge hammered bowl while a staff member pours warm water over your hands from a large metal pitcher. Plush hand towels are provided. You are seated at nicely appointed tables the with champaign glasses, lovely juice and tea or coffee, as well as a full english breakfast.
In our case we were catching our flights home immediately after breakfast and as such Jonny our pilot made sure we were served right away.
We were really made to feel special from begining to end and we highly recommend this adventure.
