Seronera Wildlife Lodge

I understand and accept that being at a prime location is worth something and so I granted this property a "2" rating. Aside for this, there was NOTHING good worth mentioning at the Seronara. Let me start by saying that there was NO Internet available at all, for a fee or not. This is simply unacceptable at this day and age. The rooms were at best average. The beds were at best adequate. The was either no hot water, no water pressure or usually - neither. The food was nothing special and was almost the same both days that I was there. The hotel setup is weird with the dining area literally on top of a hill so you need to be prepared to climb for you food. The pool is tiny. The bar area barely large enough to accommodate when there are many guests. The rooms are dormitory style in a two-floor railroad building. Here is a viewing platform outside the restaurant area and above the pool. the view is magnificent. The staff is not more than courteous. This was definitely the worst property I stayed at during my 5-day safari in Tanzania. Shame.

Room Tip: I am not aware of any special locations. Perhaps ask for rooms closer to the dining area.

This hotel is well located in Serengeti, but it´s the only plus. On the minuses, we had mouses in the roof, the architecture is out-of-date, all the free services are "momentally unaibalable" (internet, wifi, ...). The bathroom didn't look very clean. No fan in the room.
In a nutshell, VERY expensive for what they offered us!!

I have just read the previous reviews for this lodge and had to smile to myself as these comments reflect my experiences exactly. The positives - the architectural design of the common areas of this lodge is exquisite. Built in and around enormous boulders of native granite, the restaurant, bar and pool area are stunning. The sunset deck is a wonderful place to have a sundowner and watch the sun slowly dip below the Serengeti as a lone giraffe lopes by... The food was also wonderful, with an amazing variety of delicious options including multiple tasty vegetarian options. The resident hyrax colony, and other wildlife that roams by the lodge (warthog, giraffe, hares, vervets etc) make this is special place. Unfortunately there are aspects of this lodge that really let it down. Firstly, the rooms are tiny and very dated. There has been some attempt to refresh the bathrooms, but they are still very pokey and awkward. There are no room fans (or aircon) and the rooms become extremely hot during the day. Also there are no mosquito nets and despite going to bed smothered in sticky repellant I was still bitten by morning. The floor boards in the rooms creak terribly and the walls are paper-thin. As I was too warm to sleep, I got to listen to my neighbour snoring all night long. It was a long night. The lack of sleep was exacerbated by the lack of service at breakfast the next morning. The staff at Seronera Wildlife Lodge seem to have an active dislike for their jobs. As this is consistent across the majority of staff (reception and restaurant), this suggests to me that management is poor and is not looking after it's people as the culture of the lodge seems to be very negative. Or perhaps they are just sick of dealing with customers who complain about their rooms. The bar staff were the most friendly and helpful, even though they were let down a little by the lack of available options (for example the 'beer menu' was superfluous as the only beer available was Safari). There is a brand new shiny gym and Internet cafe - neither of which were open during our visit.

The Seronera Wildlife Lodge was the first lodge built in Serengeti National Park. If you are the first, you pick the best location... best for animal viewing, certainly, and also for convenience if you are on your way north. It is a pretty hotel, built into the rock. Food is a large and plentiful buffet, rather like American national parks. Just beware of the shower temperature fluctuations. I suggest taking a bath!

Room Tip: Remember to close your shutters at night or you may have a baboon in your room!

We had a great stay at this hotel! The facilities are good with a wonderful pool and observation deck. There is a nice lounge/bar area that looks very cosy but it was rather warm inside. It would have been great to have some fans around just to circulate the air! The staff were not overly friendly so cannot really comment on the staff or their attitude. It would have been great to see them crack a smile!
The rooms were average sized with tea/coffee making facilities available in the room. The windows overlooked the game park which was interesting. here again it would have been great to have a fan inside the room. Although the weather was quite cool when we visited, when you close up the window, it can get a bit stuffy and warm.
The best part of this hotel was the food! The food was awesome.. Very well seasoned and tasty! especially the starters and main dishes. The desserts were average. The selection was not vast but enough to satisfy anyone. During our 10day tour we had the best food at Seronera! Hats off to the chef! The gym and gift shop was under construction so cannot comment on that!

This is overall a great lodge. Hardly you'll find any negative points of it. It has a great location. There are also some good artistic work been done on the Stones in the Restaurant of this Lodge which is very good.

Even in terms of animal viewing this lodge has a perfect location, like you won't have to go very far to find more animals'. We saw a lot of different species of bird and an rare spotting of a Leopard dragging its prey to a tree..

All in all, this a place to stay if you are looking for good lodge and a good place for animal viewing during your safari.

This place is overall a great place. Internet is broken at the moment and the gym and gift shop are in construction, but otherwise the facilities are good.

Some of us had problem getting stable hot water, which was the BIGGEST issue for us. The temperature fluctuates very badly between very hot and very cold.

There are an abundance of small animals in the court yards. Hyraxes are resting on every rock and if you don't close your window the monkeys may come in and steal your sugar bags. Sometimes impalas come by, and we've also seen a troop of mongooses running around catching birds and lizards. Our biggest complaint is that the hotel is producing some significant light pollution to the area. At sunset, the hotel lights are very shiny and because it is built on hills visible from very far away. I have to say it is a little abrupt in that sense. Should use inside facing lights only and cover then up with bushes like many other lodges did.
Only the front desk people are fluent in English.
