“Loved Serengeti Sopa”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. Loved it. The first glimpse of the lodge from the outside is not all that impressive but that all changes when you enter the lobby and are welcomed into a cool oasis. Staff bring out warm towels and glasses of cool juice. The décor is in keeping with the area. After our long hike to our room at the Ngorongoro Sopa, we had the best room in the house we think. Room #27 which is the first room off the lobby, second floor. The view out over the Serengeti was breathtaking. We sat out on our balcony soaking it all in. Make sure you lock your balcony doors as we had a monkey eyeing us waiting for us to go in and he was on the balcony in a flash once we did. The grounds were very nice with a pool (which we never got around to using) and tables looking down over the Serengeti. The restaurant had excellent food but the stars were the staff, in particular Baracka who was our waiter for all our meals. He went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. When my husband was not feeling well he had the kitchen make him a special infusion. He was so warm and personable, he really made a big impression on us. And then our last night we were presented with a cake with Kwaheri (goodbye) on it. We were so touched. Thank you Sopa!

Bearing in mind that this is a lodge in the middle of nowhere, it is excellent. Centrally located in the Serengeti. Well maintained and beautiful grounds. Nice rooms and good food. Highly recommended.

Fantastic staff, friendly, helpful and professional. Accommodation excellent and the view from the deck is beautiful. We watched animals at the waterhole at sunset from the deck. A giraffe came right up to the edge of the deck to feed. So close.

While our travel agent booked this place for us during our 10 day Safari tour throughout Eastern Africa, we were very pleased with this stay. The rooms were large with great views of the Serengeti. Make sure you keep your doors closed however as the little tree monkeys will come in and steal from you. Having no AC or a fan was very uncomfortable at night so be aware. The staff was friendly, the dinner and breakfast were quite good with many options. There was a very nice pool, great bar and relaxing patio where you could watch the sunset after a long days safari.
Based on the other hotels in the Serengeti, this one was definitely placed conveniently close to all the drives.

Room Tip: Get a higher room as the lower ones have blocked views of the Serengeti.

Average lodge, not good as the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. We stayed for 2 nights, with hot water only between 6 am/pm to 9 am/pm. The cleaning could be better, and at dinner we had to pay for the water. The food was good. Vrey good location in the Serengeti Coservation area. Be careful of the monkeys.

So the rooms don't look great - the colour scheme is not my cup of tea, but the rooms are huge, beds comfy, steaming hot showers with views of the wildebeest migration right outside our window (literally a couple of metres away).

The staff were fantastic. Most notable to mention - this was the BEST food we had on our 9 day safari (compared to African Tulip, Manyara Wildlife Safari Camp, Tarangire River Camp, Exploreans Ngorongoro). This was also the only place where they gave you choice on the menu for dinner (soup, appetiser, main and dessert). The other places just basically had one menu with 3 courses a night. The food here was right up there with the big cities (NY, Paris, Dubai, HK..you get the picture). Breakfast - a big selection. Pancakes (or more precisely, American style hotcakes) were crispy and chewy at the same time. Eggs were the best we had on our trip.

The staff did a song and dance number at dinner. Loved the energy and atmosphere.

Free wifi in the coffee bar and dining area.

Again the staff made all the difference, they very attentive, warm and professionals. The room are large, the shower huge, lots of hot water. The food was great, the menu better than the buffet. Wifi is free and signal very strong. Nice pool and sitting area outside. The bar staff was very patient with me when I insisted on showing them the photos I took during the day! Only one little problem with the lunch box which was not very good or nutritious. I spent 3 amazing day in the Serengeti, I will never forget it.
