Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 29, 2014

Yes, pure luxury, a 5 star hotel in the middle of the Serengeti with outstanding facilities and certainly every facility and service is just exceptional. The drive / transfer from Olduvai to enter the Serengeti National Park is also an amazing experience with giraffe, elephants and hippos and our first sighting of lions. We were greeted with cool drinks and towels.

The hotel overlooks a watering hole and elephants come at morning and night. We came down for a drink at the bar and beside the pool only to have elephants coming in to drink. Our room was just superb.

Food and service were of the highest standards. Hard to believe all of this is 6-7 hours from anywhere in the wilderness.

Rooms are outside the main building along walkways in dormitory style apartment blocks, but a surprise greets you on walking in. There is a serene nature to the rooms with wonderful balcony and outlooks over the wild plains of the Serengeti. Bed is comfortable, the room beautifully decorated and air -conditioning works quietly. You are advised to take a guide or warrior with you as you go from your room to the dining and lounge areas of the hotel .

This was a highlight in terms of our Safari accommodation. Excellent friendly , courteous staff

Room Tip: Again seek accommodation closer to the main building of the hotel because there is a decent walk fro...

From the moment we were greeted at the airstrip by Priscous our driver and guide we simply knew this would be the trip of a lifetime. The airport transfer was so unexpected, it is like going on a mini safari, lions, giraffe, elephants and hippos were spotted along the route, it was so exciting!

One arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Ned, the Hotel Manager and his team, we received the most amazing welcome from him and his team, we felt like we were home and we had only just arrived. The delicious arrival drink and cold towels were also a very warm welcome.

The first day was spent at the hotel, we took time to explore the discovery centre, which was simply amazing, the staff were a wealth of information and you could tell by their enthusiasm they loved what they did. It was a real treat to discover all of the facts prior to going out on safari, we also watched some of the movies on offer about lions, migration etc, valuable information to take out the next day. It was very unexpected to find such a centre in the middle of the African bush! and well worth spending time there.

All of our transport, safari's and activities, we booked via the hotel direclty and did not involve any other tour companies, it was so easy, quick, efficient and they delivered excellent results. I am very pleased that we went down this route directly, we could not have received the same service elsewhere, it would be impossible!

I cannot praise our guide and driver Priscous enough. He spent four days with us, he was professional, enthusiastic, helpful and delivered on every request that we had, including a viewing of five rhino, two at very close range. He will be forever in our memories and certainly helped deliver a very special vacation, Priscous the great, thank you.

The food througout our stay was excellent, considering that the nearest town is over an 8 hour drive away, I was very surprised at the array of food they had on offer each day, from buffets to BBQ's to a la carte in their traditional restaurant Boma.

Breakfast each morning was also excellent and again a large selection of food on offer.

The staff throughout our stay were excellent, very friendly, polite and could not do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. I must praise John and Adela at the front desk, Bakhari who took care of us almost every day, George, Mary and MC who greeted us with their larges smiles and welcomed us by name each morning. George's smile could light up any room, so warm and friendly. Deograscis and Salis, also deserve a mention, they were teffific.

Esther was such an incredible help to us during the planning of our trip, we took her advice on everything and we never went wrong, she is so friendly, helpful, kind and again played a hugh part in making our trip the success it was.

The General Manager Jim, met us on more than one occasion througout our stay and showed the most genuine interest on what we did each day. I don't know what magic formula he has to running such an incredible property in such a remote locatin, but whatever he is doing, it works magicially and I am sure cannot be equaled by any other hotel in the Serengeti.

The massage in the spa was as good as you could find anywhere, Cherry was excellent. The spa should not be missed while there. It overlooks the Serengeti bush and I had the pleasure of watching a family of baboon play around the grounds during my massage!

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and from what I saw, all had beautiful views of the grounds. When I had any spare time, I sat on the balcony and watched families of elephant head towards the watering hole in front of the swimming pool, there were 16 of them there on one occasion day during our stay. It is so peaceful to sit on the balcony and watch nature at its best.

The hotel was spotless througout and supplied all of the amenities one would expect. The beds were perfect and offered an excellent nights sleep.

I would highly recommend this hotel while visiting the Serengeti, if I could score higher I would, they went above and beyond to make it the trip of a lifetime for us and succeded ten times over, they certainly deserve all the accolades that can be possibly bestowed upon them.

This is clearly a luxurious 5-star hotel in the middle of the Serengeti. An exceptional hotel with every convenience. The service is perfect, food is excellent and accommodations wonderful. If you are looking for a hotel on your safari with all the amenities, this is the one. The only downside to the hotel is the location. it is about 45 - 60 min far from any safari activities, so you spend 1 to 2 hours each day traveling to and from the hotel. Although not inexpensive, the experience is worth the price.

This is pure luxury in the Serengeti . The location is out of this world. The food is amazing and when you realise you are eight hours from any suppliers the choice is superb with the best service ever. Nothing is too much trouble and always with a beautiful smile. The views from all the rooms are just stunning. This hotel is a must if visiting Tanzania . This is what dreams are made of.

My wife and I stayed here two nights during our 10 day private safari in Tanzania. We stayed at the lodge the first two nights in the bush. We were flabbergasted to find such a luxurious property in the middle of nowhere as our driver pulled up to the lodge. This was the finest accommodations during our safari. We were warmly greeted with a cold drink and cool towels after 10 hours driving in the Serengeti. We had been upgraded to a suite with its own infinity pool and a fabulous view of the waterhole that is frequented by many elephants. The food was great, the service was fantastic and the views were incomparable. If you want to rough it, this is not the property for you but if you like five star treatment after a 10-12 hour game drive this is your dream lodge.

After a dusty ride through the Serengeti (always) you come on this complex. Frankly, it's almost otherwordly at this point. Greeted with cool towels and iced hibiscus tea, you are checked in, in typical African style. Not at a front desk, but instead over drinks in comfortable chairs in the lounge area. The lounge and building are filled with beautiful African art, and the complex itself would be at home in New York City. Rooms are accessed by elevated walkway, to keep guests from interacting with animals in a manner negative to both guests and animals.

The rooms are massive, with a large separate closet/dressing room, a huge bathroom with separate shower and tub, the tub overlooking the Serengeti plains. The bed, as all are in this part of the world, is equipped with mosquito netting. There are sliding doors to a large deck, with beautiful furniture, also overlooking the plains and the watering hole (which attracts animals, including elephants). The deck has both a glass, and reinforced screen door - in order to keep the baboons out of your room. There is a beautiful spa area, and a lovely infinity pool overlooking the watering hole.

There were only two negatives: First, there were a series of drinks at the bar that I couldn't order, as they were out of ingredients; and second, all of the meals are buffet. Both, I suspect are a function of stocking a hotel in the middle of an enormous nowhere. Both were small prices to pay, as this place is wonderful.

Room Tip: They are essentially all the same - overlooking the plains and the watering hole.
