“If you want to relive a imperialist empire time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013 via mobile

This is a nice but funky themed place. In the middle of no where - surrounded by lions and other wild animals- they have created a little tented village with extremes harking back to the British Empire. Marble counter tops in the toilets, toiletries from London, British furniture, waiters dressed more as servants than servers, silvery cutlery, fine china and porcelain. It's all rather like a weird sort of reality Disneyland. The service was great. The people were nice. We enjoyed the pool area. The west end of Serengeti park has fewer tourists and more animals. We stayed two nights. On the first night at 3.25 am a lion attacked and killed a zebra in front of our tent. The two park rangers stationed at Kirawira (they pack guns) were scrambled To control our safety. When we emerged from the safety of our tent hours later there was still a security guard posted in front of our tent holding vigil. Lions occasionally use the swimming pool to get drinks during the dry season.

This place was heaven. We only stayed 1 night, but wish we had stayed 3. The service is impeccable, everything is very clean. In the heat of the afternoon, we took a dip in the pool which has a gorgeous view. The really special aspect of it, though, were the rooms, which are elevated from the ground to keep the animals and bugs out, have wood floors and canopy beds, and a luxury bathroom with gold trim and a marble bath. We were on honeymoon, and it really felt like sweet luxury in the middle of the Serengeti. The food was all very good, though the dining area is left open at night, so it's easy for bugs to get in. They even brought us muffins and coffee in the morning on real silver to our room. It was heaven.

This is the star of the Serena chain. May 2013 was our fifth time staying at this wonderful tented camp. The service is a notch above the rest. Especially in the dining tent with servers Leonid and Bonifas. The food is exceptional and they have a very nice wine list. All meals are a set menu, a nice break from the buffets at other lodges. The tents are spacious and well appointed yet give you the feeling of being in the wilderness. Morning wake ups are wonderful with the delivery of hot coffee or tea right to your tent which you then can enjoy on your private deck. If you're lucky you'll hear a lion roaring early in the morning. The pool is fantastic with an awesome view of the Serengeti plains below. It is very refreshing after a hot dusty safari drive. We particularly like the dawas. The dawa is a unique cocktail which in Swahili means medicine. The only negative we had this trip was the laundry pricing which had increased significantly since the last time we were there in 2011. Be mindful of the laundry prices and only use this service if you absolutely have to. The staff here love to celebrate special occasions with their guests like birthdays, anniversaries, or even repeat guests.

Room Tip: All then tents have a good view. If stairs are a problem choose tents closer to the dining tent.

After staying in Kenya at Tortilis Tented camp we were very disappointed in this place. We thought it was going to be the ultimate in Tented experience as it is part of the small hotels of the world but found the whole thing disappointing.
I have to say that the restaurant their staff were excellent and made the whole thing a little better.
Not worth the money and the management lacked a little in class and professionalism.

My husband and I spent two nights here as part of our honeymoon booked through Real Africa in the UK.
We were keen to see the great migration and although we missed the masses (they'd moved north by end of June) we saw thousands of stragglers and our stay in this part of the Serengeti was equally amazing!
We saw the giant crocs of the Grumeti and leopard! We saw countless lions and more incredibly could hear them roaring each night from our tent at kirawira camp!
I say tent but it was far more luxurious and substantial set up on wooden stilts with unbelievable views of the plains stretched out in front of us!
Kirawira was a fantastic place to stay and we would have loved to have stayed longer! The tents are fun, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable! We were treated to excellent service by all members of staff...particularly the kitchen staff! We are vegetarian and particularly fussy...it was no problem at all...the chef came to meet us and discussed our likes and needs and each night created beautiful 4/5 course dinners for us! Everyone was extremely attentive to us and the service was impeccable!
Packed lunches we took with us for our game drives were full, diverse and delicious!
Thank you Kirawira for making our honeymoon so wonderful! We will never forget it and hope to stay again someday!

With no previous experience of safari, my wife and I had no idea what to expect but this was beyond any imaginable expectations.

The "tent" was fantastic and the porch overlooking the Serengeti was remarkable.

The food was excellent but the service was even better. Can not say enough about the staff. They were so friendly, polite and professional.

The pool area was a very nice was to relax in the middle of the day and the wifi was very good considering the location of the camp.

We would recommend Kirawira to anybody. Expensive but worth it.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the plains from your balcony. We had this and were glad to have it.

I had high expectation for the Kirawira Camp. It was nice but it didn't knock my socks off. For the price it should have. We found it WAY over priced. There are many better options. Serena was difficult to work with while there too. We stayed because we wanted a tent experience. The view from our tent was spectacular-overlooking the Serengeti. Some animals walking around in the wild-fun to see. The "camp" is looking a little worn. They need better attention to detail. For a 5 star place, the beds were average at best. Bed sheets were worn and very thin, blankets torn, matted and ratty. We stayed three nights, our tent wasn't barely cleaned for our last night. We came back from dinner (after a long day of safari riding) to find a tent full of biting safari ants. The bites from the ants were painful-they were quick to attack. As my son aply put it, now I know what ants in the pants feel like. His night clothes were full of them. He put them on before he realized the tent was consumed with ants. Now perhaps this happens while on safari, but I can't help to think that If the room had been cleaned properly and sprayed this would not have happened on such a grand scale. They were every where! Room maintenance lacked, some dirty towels taken but not replaced, foot towels removed and not replaced, floors not swept. I called for replacements and clean up before dinner and none were sent nor done. Again, I suspect that if the room would have been cleaned properly and sprayed that the volume of ants would not have been there. In defense to staff, when we called, staff did come to our tent within five minutes of our call, to spray down the tent inside and underneath. Unfortunately we breathed the fumes all night. If done properly during the day we wouldn't have had to deal with it at 11pm at night. Prices for laundry, wine and beer were very expensive - triple of what we paid at all of our other comparable lodges we stayed. Food was good-not exceptional. Pool area was very beautiful. Being a travel agent I won't bring another group to this property. (there were ten of us -4 tents- visiting this trip) Bottom line, go someplace else for the money.
