Serengeti Halisi Camp
Reviewed February 18, 2013

I loved everything about this camping experience! I can't say enough about the amazing staff, perfect accommodations and wonderful food. The tents are very large with a comfortable bed and private toilet and shower in the tent! Each morning the staff bring scones with tea/coffee to your tent and at night you can enjoy a Safari beer while watching the sunset from the front of your tent. It was amazing to be right in the Serengeti sleeping with the animals. The camp is ran entirely on solar power, so there are no generators or other machines competing with the beautiful nature around you.

I didn´t know what to expect from a mobile tented camp in the middle of Serengeti. But definately not what we found; a lovely place so far from a luxury hotel you could dream of. With so many other values that for me made Halisi the most memorable accomodation of all during our nine-day safari in Tanzania. The tents were big, clean and had everything we needed, a bush-shower and toilet, real beds, plenty of space for two persons. Food and service was excellent, I can´t really think of anything to complain about. Yes, one thing! It was very hard to find, but I guess that varies depending upon where the camp is moved.

We spent 2 nights at the Halisi Serengeti Camp in Tanzania. What a great experience.
The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The tents we big and comfortable. Hearing the animals during the night was thrilling. And, the meals were delicious. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

We spent 2 nights in Halisi Camp while on safari in Northern Tanzania in early October of this year and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Halisi is a very eco-friendly semi-permanent camp that this time of the year is located in the Seronera area of the Serengeti where wildlife abounds. The setting is just perfect with a very remote and wild feel about it. There is no running water and no electricity, instead you have a bush shower (the water is nice and warm and if it should not be enough you can order more!) and clever solar lamps that you can remove and take with you (like a torch).
What really impressed us was the friendliness of the staff and the EXCELLENT food. At night after dinner we sat around at a bonfire and had some drinks and good conversations. A great way of ending a great safari day.
We immediately felt very much at home at Halisi and really did not want to leave.

Room Tip: For the very budget orientated travellers they also have simple tents with a sanitary unit for every...

Everything was perfect during our stay in September!
The tent was clean, we had no insects inside. The bush shower was good and the toilet clean.
We did not expect such good food in Serengeti!
Halisi Camp is highly recommended

Wow!!! What an experience. This was our first time to Africa and as such our first Safari. After spending a couple of nights at the Tarangire Safari Lodge (another great place to stay), we arrived at the Halisi Tented Camp which is a mobile Tent camp based in the Serengeti. The tents were very well equipped, spacious, had a very comfortable bed and also included a separate shower, toilet and bathroom. The service was outstanding - personal, extremely responsive and always polite and friendly. There were 3 hot meals available every day and the food, whether it be a hot lunch or a 3 course dinner was top quality. The location itself was amazing - my understanding is that every few months they move to an isolated place in the Serengeti and set-up these tents - there are no fences and yep, you do see the odd animal very late at night when you are making your way to/from dinner and hear the odd Lion, but you do feel extremely safe because the Tents are very secure and there are always guides on duty to walk you to and front your tent at night, and any other time if you need any assistance. It was by far one of the most thrilling experiences I have had. Two nights in a row we heard lions and we always felt safe because the people who run the camps are extremely diligent and ensure that every step is taken to make the guests feel safe. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who would love to experience the real Serengeti but with the comforts such as top service, very nice food and luxury tenting.

Typical Tanzanian lodges are large, posh, and over the top. If you're looking for that experience, go ahead and book it, there are plenty of choices. Halisi Camp offers what the big lodges cannot--a low-impact ecological footprint and a close connection to the ground, grass, and wind of the magnificent Serengeti plains.

Accommodation is in large safar-style canvas tents with zippered dividers between a shower room and bathroom. Showers are hand-filled by staff in the afternoon from charcoal-heated fires. Chemical toilets mean no plumbing or waste left behind when the camp moves for the season-only grass remains. The description above states that the camp is in Ndutu but this is true for only the short dry season (December-February); in the long dry season of July-October it moves to the Seronera area of the central Serengeti.

Dinners are remarkably accomplished considering the small cooking tent with only its solar-powered freezer and refrigerator. Staff escorts you from your tent to the dining tent so you don't have to fear the animals that frequent the camp at night.

Staff are happy to accomodate all possible requests, including plugging in your electronic devices to charge from the main solar array.

If you wish to have fifteen-minute showers and a brightly lit, garish lodge with bored musicians and a gift shop, Halisi Camp is NOT for you--stay away! If you're willing to get rid of the extras but still experience fantastic luxury in a wildlife camping setting, this is your place.

Room Tip: If you can, book directly through tanzaniajourneys.com, they operate the camp and are excellent safa...
