Dear Waju74447,

Thank you for your review and we're so happy you loved the lodge. We're even more delighted that you've already booked your second stay with us coming up in October. We absolutely love your rainbow photo taken from the Stone House.

A really friendly African experience and welcome awaits you at the Simba Lodge.

We loved the chalets even thought the ECO solar lighting makes you arrange your room and luggage in the daylight....the outdoor shower is great

Staff cannot do enough for you especially the ebulklient Susan.....Bill the owner was on hand and a really pleasant and helpful fellow.

Food whilst not a great selection was tasty and sufficient

The lodge itself was a little drive out of the park at Ikoma but do not let this put you off as the venue has great views from it's hilltop position .

All rooms seemed to have animal names ours was close to reception called Giraffe and was great. I believe there was a terrace of a few chalets called STONE Cottage or similar and these also had great views and are I believe used for honeymoon couples too!

Room Tip: Choose Giraffe for close proximity to main building Stone Cottage for honeymoon quality experience b...

Definitely was my favourite out of all the lodges we stayed at during our safari (OCT 2012).
You should however note that it is an eco-lodge and they try to run on solar power as much as possible so as long as you're not wasting hot water, you should have enough for your shower.
The generator is run for a few hours every day and is fine to charge up your camera and phone batteries.
Location on the kopjes was excellent and the view to the horizon, especially the sunrise was amazing! Rooms are large enough but since lighting is powered by the solar cells, it is a little dim but you get used to it and was not a problem.
The food was good and the staff were friendly. There is free Wi-Fi but signal is very low so you can only use it in the reception area.
You're asked not to walk around alone after dark as the animals (lions & hyenas) are around and do come up the hill. A Masai guard walks with you just to ensure your safety.
Be warned that you will hear the lions roars and hyenas 'laughs' through most of the night so it can be scary or exciting, depending on how you look at it. I thought it added to the actual feel of being on a safari surrounded by wild animals!
Recommended lodge for sure and if I ever go back, will stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms are named after various animals. We stayed at Wildebeest and it had an excellent view but it w...

Thank you for your review and we're delighted that Serengeti Simba was your favourite lodge on your safari. We appreciate you helping the Trip Advisor community to understand the slight restrictions that being eco-friendly mean for our guests. I think most of us will agree that the planet is worth it. We too enjoy the sounds of the African night and we're hoping that you will return to stay with us again.

To get to the Serengeti, you have a long trip of "bumping and dusting" on dirt roads! The Simba Lodge is a welcome sight after long safari days. The staff is genuine and you feel like family by the time you leave. I would prefer the laid back style of the Serengeti Simba Lodge any day against over-stylized resorts.

The views are fantastic. The rooms, located on a hill, all offer sweeping vistas of the plains below. Food is excellent as is the service. Staff is warm and friendly. The beds are extremely comfortable. My only suggestion is to procure firmer pillows.

This is a lovely property, with sweeping views of the Serengeti. The rooms are nice, and the shower is great. We just missed the migration, but I understand the location is perfect if the timing is right for the animals to come right thru. We could hear the animals at night outside our tents - exactly what you think while on safari in Africa. The major downside was the food. It simply wasn't good, although the staff was pleasant. Also, the hotel runs off of solar power, providing supplemental power from a generator a few hours each nite to charge camera batteries, etc. The window to charge is very narrow, and it would be better if the hotel could extend this slightly.

Dear LAtravel2012, thank you so much for taking the time to rate Serengeti Simba Lodge on Trip Advisor. We're very sorry that the food wasn't to your satisfaction and will follow up with our manager and chef on this. Regarding the electricity situation we do take pride in being an Eco-friendly lodge running mostly on solar power which does restrict the window of opportunity for charging batteries to the 3 hours in the morning and 3 in the evening when the generator is running. We'll take your suggestion to heart and look into extending this a bit.

We're so happy you enjoyed the sounds of wildlife in the African night from your tent and found the staff to be friendly. Thank you for your honest and positive review.

The Serengeti Simba was the best! The views were amazing. The people were great. The food was as good as any lodge we stayed at.

The most surprising aspect of the stay was the shower. Most lodges had hot water that we stayed at, but the shower was like a 5-star hotel.

The only drawback of the lodge is how far away it was from the migration in late May. As the migration moves north, I have to imagine that the lodge is primed for great viewing.

If you're wondering whether or not to stay at the Simba lodge, it is definitely worth it and the best place to stay outside the National Park.
