This is a lovely property, with sweeping views of the Serengeti. The rooms are nice, and the shower is great. We just missed the migration, but I understand the location is perfect if the timing is right for the animals to come right thru. We could hear the animals at night outside our tents - exactly what you think while on safari in Africa. The major downside was the food. It simply wasn't good, although the staff was pleasant. Also, the hotel runs off of solar power, providing supplemental power from a generator a few hours each nite to charge camera batteries, etc. The window to charge is very narrow, and it would be better if the hotel could extend this slightly.

Dear LAtravel2012, thank you so much for taking the time to rate Serengeti Simba Lodge on Trip Advisor. We're very sorry that the food wasn't to your satisfaction and will follow up with our manager and chef on this. Regarding the electricity situation we do take pride in being an Eco-friendly lodge running mostly on solar power which does restrict the window of opportunity for charging batteries to the 3 hours in the morning and 3 in the evening when the generator is running. We'll take your suggestion to heart and look into extending this a bit.

We're so happy you enjoyed the sounds of wildlife in the African night from your tent and found the staff to be friendly. Thank you for your honest and positive review.

The Serengeti Simba was the best! The views were amazing. The people were great. The food was as good as any lodge we stayed at.

The most surprising aspect of the stay was the shower. Most lodges had hot water that we stayed at, but the shower was like a 5-star hotel.

The only drawback of the lodge is how far away it was from the migration in late May. As the migration moves north, I have to imagine that the lodge is primed for great viewing.

If you're wondering whether or not to stay at the Simba lodge, it is definitely worth it and the best place to stay outside the National Park.

Serengeti simba lodge is an amazing lodge placed on beautiful hills. It has a serene unruffled environment, cozy cottages, and laudable staff. The real beauty of the lodge is its natural aura, the big rock in the restaurant has been left as it is, use of solar energy, tents, use of brushwood etc .And yes an unsurpassed thing, the spectacular and breathtaking view of endless Serengeti plains……

We stayed three nights at Serengeti samba lodge. The day we arrived in the evening we were welcomed by convivial staff with drinks and hot towels. For the dinner a masai sakari escorted us to the restaurant…….The dinner was yum; and the good part was everything fresh, in house newly baked bread, cakes etc…..A remarkable thing to see is the sunrise, the cold breeze in the morning just charms you with its magic. We were fortunate to spot the wildbeast migration and some antelopes running. My husband loved the swimming pool. The pool had a splendid view, with clear water. I also liked the name of the tents wildbeast, zebra, eagle…...The tents were extremely comfy, and I just loved the open shower concept…

Well…..all I can say is that Serengeti lodge is a perfect place to stay in Serengeti……. A lifetime experience….

I LOVED this lodge. It was our last stop on a very long trip in Tanzania.

The Simba lodge was lovely place to stay while we did our game drives in the Serengeti national park. It is close to the park gate with just a 20 minute ride down the mountain. The mountain top location enables each tent to have the most amazing views of the plains below. Everyday we were able to sit on our deck and watch the wildebeast and zebra below.

The staff was amazing, especially Kenneth the asst. manager. The service was impeccable both in the room and in the main lodge. The chefs were extremely accommodating to our dietary needs and one was never wanting for food.

I was truly sad to leave this sanctuary on a mountain top.

Perched on top of a rocky outcrop overlooking the vast plains and wilderness, playing spot the animal (yes even the elephants take a while to spot amongst the thousands upon thousands of acacia trees dotted across the landscape as far as the eye can see) I spent an idyllic weekend in luxury that I have not found elsewhere in my last 5 months in Tanzania. For me it's the views, the exquisite tents, and the warm, gentle, highly accommodating staff who really make this place something special, combining high class quality with natural charm. It's so good to see natural materials and solar are in use.

With the blinds rolled up I woke to the sound of hyenas at 6 and watched the sun slowly rise above the horizon from my comfy 4poster bed. I can recommend the excitement of a night safari and I particularly enjoyed the homemade muesli at breakfast time! I think it's great that the lodge is in the conservation area but not in the main park as I couldn't tell the difference in terms of wildlife, but less 4wheel drive vehicles.

Room Tip: I stayed in 'Eagle' tent, which has fabulous views, but all the tents seem to be scattered i...

This is a very secluded and beautifully hill-located lodge overlooking the vast plains with great sunset-rise scenes. They have really managed to maintain the wild feeling but at the same time providing luxary with awwesome hot water outdoor showers, great food and really clean rooms.

Even though the lodge is out of the park, it feels like your inside since you can watch animals walking around the plains below your luxary tent. It is great to wake up with sunrise over the plains and drink fresh coffee that the staff brings you. The staff is overall great and Kenneth who is the boss there is very caring.

Hanging out in the pool overlooking the plains is a memory for a lifetime.
The place is worth the extra ride outside the north gate!
