Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp

The view from my comfortable tent was more like a beautiful painting than the real thing. It was a pleasure sitting on the covered tent "porch" and watching the elephants, zebra and giraffe go by. At night the sounds of lions and leopard added to the romance of this beautiful spot. The tent on the far end included two double beds and a large ensuite bathroom (with bucket showers) was very comfortable. The one complaint I have is that it did not include the comfortable chair and floor lamp that other tents had - we were told the furnishings were on order. Another note about the tents - apparently at least one of the other tents had a king sized bed. This was not a big deal for us as we enjoyed being at the end of the line of tents.

The food was healthy and tasty and they had a well stocked bar. We had our own guides so we did not use the camps vehicles and guides but the rest of the staff was very helpful. I highly recommend this camp.

Room Tip: Pick a tent based upon how close or far you want to be to the main tent with the restaurant and bar.

The Lemala Ewanjan was the third Lemala Camp we stayed in September 2013. All three camps were wonderful, but the Ewanjan was spectacular. We had a fantastic view of the Serengeti from our front porch. The camp attendants were all very professional and adept at their jobs. No worries, no complaints. The head chef put together meals that equaled those of top rated restaurants in Europe. Loved the French press coffee and biscuits delivered to our tent in the mornings. High recommend giving the Lemala Camps a try if you book a safari. Also, the hot air balloon ride is a MUST. You won't be disappointed.

We had the great opportunity to stay at Lemala Ewanjan for five nights in October 2013. What a wonderful experience! The staff (actually became our family) were extremely competent, friendly, and service oriented. We cannot say enough about this unique experience.

The food ( cooked by Chef Sulemon) was delicious. We could not believe the gourmet food that this chef produced in such a primitive kitchen. We also must mention that Simon the assistant camp manager ensured that the standards of this camp were exceptional. In addition, one of the staff members, Fathid, ensured our showere water was the perfect temperature and that our clothes were washed and returned daily. Sometimes it looked like he ironed them! Fathid also delivered our coffee and biscuits to our tents each morning with a smiling face. We miss his good mornings now that we are home.

We also enjoyed interacting with two Masai warriors (Doktar and Asai). These two gentlemen would set-up the campfire each night (Africans call this bush TV) and would watch the perimeter of the camp to ensure we were safe from animals. One of the best reasons for staying at this location was the sounds and sights of the animals. You could just watch and hear the animals from your tent! Please knows that we did not feel afraid at any time, we just enjoyed being a part of the wild surroundings.

The camp accommodations were beyond our expectations. The tents were clean, large, and included many amenities such as a flush toilet and a hot shower. Lemala definitely provided a high-quality experience and ensured that our stay was comfortable and beyond belief!

We are committed to becoming ambassadors for Tanzania and Lemala. The people of this country are friendly and are happy to share their culture.

Lemala Ewanjan is simply amazing. He accommodations are wonderful, the staff is great, and the food is outstanding. We spent five nights there and could have stayed forever. I never thought tent camping could be so luxurious. We actually had our own butler who brought us coffee the morning. It was hard to leave.

Room Tip: There are only about 12 tents so all have great locations and views.

We stayed 2 nights here. This camp is in a nice location in the central Serengeti. It’s a quiet area and secluded. The tents are very nice, with wooden floors, comfortable beds, and a bathroom area with flush toilet, sink with running water and on-request hot showers. The tents are lit with solar-powered lights that charge during the day. The staff were excellent and always willing to help. On our first day, we enjoyed a lunch outdoors, under a tree. Dinner was served in a beautiful dining/lounge tent. The food was excellent and would rival any good restaurant. Showers were hot and sufficient to not feel rushed. Each tent has a sofa on the “porch” so you can sit outside and enjoy the view. Overall, a great stay.

Dear SteveinCH

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review about Lemala Ewanjan on Trip Advisor. It gives us great pleasure to hear that you had a great stay with us in the middle of the Serengeti. We are truly blessed with amazing staff who love what they do and are brilliant at doing it. Being a small camp, our guests are able to enjoy that truly intimate, personal and pampered experience. We also take great care in ensuring that all food is delivered fresh to the banquet style table which makes for great dining experiences, the meeting of new friends and the swapping of safari stories with other travellers. We also serve local Tanzanian dishes as starters so that our guests can taste the local flavours of Tanzania all the way from the spice islands of Zanzibar to the slopes of Kilimanjaro.

Thanks again for posting. Safe travels and best wishes

We had the amazing experience of staying here for three nights on our Kenya & Tanzanian safaris, and this was our favourite spot of all of our lodges/camps. The staff were amazing (thank you Tom, Omar, Bruno and the rest). The tents are really amazing and comfortable, and the bucket shower that we were not looking forward to ended up being a fun experience. Bruno, our tent assistant, made sure the water was mixed to just the right temperature. The personal morning wake up calls, complete with tea, coffee and juice were a real treat.

The setting, food, and service were awesome....you need to take a step back and realize that you are in the middle of the Serengeti, amongst the animals...and that you are so comfortable, and being looked after so well. It is a challenge for them to do this so well as this is what is called a temporary camp. Ask to look at 'the kitchen' and then you will really appreciate what you are eating. They bake in basic wood fired ovens and make homemade delicious soups and sauces. One of our life's highlights on reflection, will forever be sitting under the stars, beside the campfire before dinner, being served nice wines and appetizers and being guarded by Masai warriors....all the while listening to lions roaring in the distance. It does not get much better than that. Thank you everyone for giving us an experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

We stayed at the Lemala Ewanjan for 3 nights, in August 2013. We were on safari with Gate1, which coordinates all of the accommodations. We absolutely loved this place, and it definitely surpassed all of our expectations. We knew we were staying in a "camp".. so we were prepared for a bit of "roughing it". There was none of that! Larger than expected size tent, shiny hard wood floors, a super comfy warm bed, nice bathroom in the tent with a working shower and running toilet and sink... and not a single bug in sight. (That last comment may seem strange..but we really were amazed at how clean and bug free a tent in the middle of the Serengeti could be.) Our 3 night stay consisted of the following: Waking up in the morning at our chosen wake up time. Porters would come to our tent in the morning with our choice of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Then we'd eat breakfast with our fellow travelers or anyone else who might be staying at the camp. Then we'd set off on a game drive for several hours (not provided by Lemala, although this might be a service they provide.. not sure), and return to a lovely lunch at the camp. Then we'd head out for another game drive, before returning back to the camp for a sit around the camp fire with drinks and appetizers. Then we'd eat dinner around 7:30, again with our fellow travelers. The service was amazing. And there were 2 Masai warriors on duty in the evening, to walk you back to your tent in the evening. We saw a few animals in the camp, such as a hyena and a giraffe, but at no point did we feel unsafe. We always felt we were in good hands at Lemala.
I would definitely recommend this place to a friend.. and I would definitely go back. It was definitely a unique experience that we will never forget.

Dear Baldwii

Thank you for posting on Trip Advisor about your stay at our camp (Lemala Ewanjan) in the Serengeti, Lemala Ewanjan. Because of its location, this camp affords guests easy access to all of the exciting and beautiful areas of the Western Corridor, Seronera Valley, Moru Kopjes, Gol Mountains and Masai Kopjes. Although just a stone's throw from Seronera and the Seronera airstrip, it has a secluded location. The camp faces west where the most magnificent view of the Serengeti plains can be enjoyed from all of the guest tents and main area. There are no roads that pass by the camp nor are there any roads visible from the camp to the west, so views are unspoilt and pristine.
I have passed your comments on to the staff at the camp which has made them all extremely happy that your stay with us had been memorable.

Happy journeys and best wishes from the Lemala Team
